BHA Toner For Bright, Clear Skin

2% BHA Toner- liquid exfoliant

Our BHA Toner is powered by salicylic acid- the only form of beta hydroxy acid (BHA)

What is salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid, or BHA.  It’s naturally found in the bark of white willow, and wintergreen trees.  It’s chemically similar to aspirin, and shares a lot of the same anti-inflammatory properties.

What does 2% BHA Toner do?

2% BHA Toner is a chemical exfoliant and targets the protein bonds that hold the skin together, and prevents skin cells from sloughing off naturally.  Excess oil, acne, sun damage, and age can all slow down this process that left unchecked can cause oil, gunk, and dead skin cells to build up below the surface of your skin.  That buildup can cause blackheads, bumps, and clogged pores.

BHA Toner also helps to thin, and dissolve excess oils.  It helps bring them up to the surface where it’s easily washed away.

BHA Toner skin benefits:

  • Reduces excess oils on skin, and in your pores
  • Minimizes enlarged pores
  • Reducess redness, and helps to calm red, stressed skin
  • Helps prevent acne
  • Helps prevent ingrown hairs

Who should use 2% BHA Toner?

BHA’s are great for oily, and acne prone skin.  It’s great for clearing clogged pores, and preventing ingrown hair if you’re prone to them from shaving or waxing.

BHA Toner is handy to have around if you have enlarged, or clogged pores- even if you just use it as a spot treatment.

How and when should I use 2% BHA Toner?

Our 2% BHA Toner is designed to be the most effective form of salicylic acid for skin made into a gentle formula with aloe, and absolutely no alcohol.  We use a mild soap to dissolve the salicylic acid- it’s safe to leave on your skin, but it also helps rinse away the oils, and skin cells that are removed in the exfoliating process.

Swiping it on with a cotton ball helps whisk away the dead skin cells, and helps it penetrate your pores.  It has a pH of 3.5-4 so it’s gentle, but effective.  BHA products have to be formulated with a pH below 4 in order to exfoliate, and be effective.

2% BHA Toner also needs to stay on your skin for at least a few minutes in order to penetrate into your pores, and do its job.  A cleanser with salicylic acid just doesn’t stay on your skin long enough to get all of the benefits of salicylic acid.

We recommend using it in the evenings, and if you have problems with excess oil buildup during the day can also use it in the mornings.

What doesn’t it work with?

Be careful, or talk to your doctor if you’re using retinoids, or products with retinol.

Are there any side effects?  Who should avoid using products with salicylic acid?

It’s considered very safe.  Some redness might occur if you’re prone to it.  If you’re using retinoids exercise caution- you do run the risk of over-exfoliating your skin.

Don’t use it if you’re allergic to aspirin, or salicylates, and don’t use it if you’re pregnant or nursing.
