Colors for a Cause- how's this idea?

Post by karen » Tue Sep 30, 2008 10:54 am

Hi,
It's out last day in NYC- MIL flies back to France tonight :(. I've been visiting all of the big department stores trying to come up with ideas for the next collection, and trying out all of the high end brands that I don't normally get to see upstate. Yesterday I bought a lipstick by Kanebo with pure gold in it and it's really a lovely color. The gold does make a difference in the way it looks, and it's just stunning.

I want to put together some colors for a cause for Breast Cancer awareness month, and I had some things planned (and part of it is actually made)- but this gold lippie really has me thinking. I want this kit of colors to be a slam dunk huge seller so we can donate a lot of money.

Would adding pure gold to makeup make you more or less likely to purchase it? I was torn on it myself until I tried it and fell in love. If wearing pure gold doesn't make you feel like a queen nothing will. It's safe- I feel perfectly fine with adding it to a color, and couldn't resist buying some food grade 23k gold, but I want to sell a ton of these kits, so I'm running it by you.

What do you think?

I think it’s a wonderful idea, it goes with a request for metallic lipsticks Sam just made.

I think you could make great gift sets with the Charity lippies. I would love to see a berry one for purely selfish reasons but definitely think you should do a neutral brownie-pink as that will work on most women.

I think some customers would like to add to the donation with their orders. For example 2 lippies for $15 in a gift bag with a card letting the recipient know that x percent of proceeds go to y charity and an additional donation was made by the purchaser. At checkout we could add a dollar amount to go directly to the charity, collected by you. The same for a single lippie, it would be a great gift to friends and relatives.

Maybe along the same line you could whip up a little gold dusting powder for the kits in 3 or 5g jars for eye use or for new years glitz.

Hi, Karen,
That's an intriguing idea. I love the idea of a little kit gift-bag. You could have a lippie, glow, and eye shadow set for the upcoming holidays, wrapped up in a little breast-cancer pink bag with ribbon and a card attached about the charity with a really spiffy slogan (have to work on that one, but I'm sure we can come up with a good one between all the forum gals.) What about a gloss with gold that could be worn over any color lipstick? That way you wouldn't have a problem with it not being the right color for some gals. Midas Touch or Touch of Midas for a name? or Gilded Gloss? Or Golden Touch? Hmmm- this is more fun than working. I'd better quit now and continue this line of thinking after work! Lauren

Ooooh you know what would be really cool IMO?

Different colors of gold like you see in the Black Hills - peach gold, white gold, rose gold, green gold, and of course the standard yellow gold.

I would TOTALLY buy eyeshadow with peach and white gold in it.

Actually, I would buy ANY eyeshadow with ANY gold in it. My favorite is Bling. I wear it with everything.

Oooh that would be really cool to find different colors of gold- for this one I have to go with special 23k edible gold and I've only found it in just regular gold color.

I thought about it the whole way home, and it's going to be a bit of a surprise for a few days until I have all of the details in place.

Thank you so much for the ideas- it is a lot more fun than working isn't it??

This thread touched my heart. A friend stopped in to see us in work yesterday ~ Della just had a mastectomy & will undergo chemo & then radiation, so the devastation this disease causes slapped me in the face. I have 2 SILs who are breast cancer *survivors*. I pray Della will be, too.

Karen ~ GO FOR IT! Everybody's got GREAT ideas :-) ~ brainstorming is wonderful fun!

Dang, I'm ready to go buy a TON of narrow pink ribbon & start "making" breast cancer awareness bows to include in kits!!!

Ah, Mikie, we are sisters in more than just kitties. My sister, mother and grandmother all had breast cancer. I always try to find a way to contribute to the cause, usually through Susan G. Komen foundation. I've been very fortunate - regular screenings have been "clean", though it's still a stressful process every time. As my doctor says, "Diligence is a good thing if it doesn't drive you crazy!" L.
