Hi all

Okay haven't posted in two weeks, well I've had a very stress full two weeks at work and I have not been watching what I eat. But I'm happy to announce that I haven't gain, for the last two weigh in's I've haven't lost nor gained.

well done Duhmons that's fantastic, keep it up can't wait to here about your next lost. Go for those skinny jeans

I have a looooooog way to got before I hit 200lb but I did pop in Peacocks (clothing shop) on friday and I manage to get 18 UK (16 US) size clothes and a couple of 16 UK (14 US) tops. I know that doesn't sound much to most, but to me it's music to my ears as I was very big before I started to lose weight :D

Thats fantastic! There's nothing quite as great as going shopping when you've lost weight :) Peacocks has some pretty cool summer stuff and it's so cheap! And this sun's the best excuse to go shopping ;)

New weigh in today, 197.3 lbs! I am so surprised because I have deviated slightly to make changes that are more livable for my lifestyle. I am getting more physical activity--spending the last 10 minutes of lunch and dinner walking laps around the parking lot at school and walking laps around the building at work! it really seems to help to get moving after I eat !!
So starting weight was 215lbs.-------weight today is 197.3, total of 17.7 lbs lost so far.
I at first was having trouble when I was out and about making the wrong choices of food, but now it is getting a bit easier---just having to do some research and relearn some of the good habits I had when my kids were little.
last year was so tough for me, separation then divorce, dealing with love ones deaths and addictions, keeping my kids on the right track, schooling delays for me because of health problems. Now it is time to concentrate on me again, and I feel so much better about myself!

You go, lady! We all have our priorities, voluntary and involuntary, and it looks like you're dealing pretty well.
Remember, you can only be as strong for others as strong as you are for yourself :)

Yippee!!!!!!! It's great to hear that you're doing so well on your diet, and that you have a little bit of "me time" for yourself. I agree with Egerandi- you have to put your oxygen mask on before you help the person next to you.

Hi all, I'm rather new to this thread but health is important!

I'm spending a semester as an exchange student in Paris (yippie!) and it's so hard for me to stay on track with all these amazing desserts, pastries, breads, and whatnot. To compensate I guess I'll just have to exercise more... I used to be pretty active (I've been on swim teams my entire life) but right now that's kinda on hold. I've been watching youtube vids for at-home (or in my case, dorm) workouts, any good suggestions? The one I'm currently following is www.bodyrock.tv and the workouts are short but VERY intensive. I thought I might share that with other fitness aficionados? :)

BTW, any thoughts on the raw food diet?

Hi all

That time of the week again and this week I've lost 3lbs - yay  Are instructor corrinne has given us a sheet to fill out of what we eat everyday and we have to take it back in next week. Well this friday is the last day of a 50% off order at dominos pizza and I was going to treat myself and you know what I'm still gonna. I just have to be extra carefull for the rest of the week, fingers crossed.

Very well done Duhmoms, keep up the exercise. I rememeber when before this my only form of exercise was reaching for the remote and now I work out to Rosemary conley's dvd (30/40 min of the disc) an average 2 times a week (mon & tues), then the whole disc (1hr 10min) on sunday then maybe on saturday if I'm not going anywhere, and then 45 min with my class on wed. And now I quite enjoy it but there are times when I have to kick my butt!!! LOL

It can be hard to do things for yourself when life throws things at you, but I do know two things that have helped me: dieting (changing for a healthier lifestyle) and Silknaturals. Seriously I was going through a bad time in my life and SN helped me get my confidenance back. I was wearing make up everyday from never wearing any before and I was getting a huge amount of compliments, it really cheered me up.

Lots, but I'll try to refrain from flooding you with them :)

I started doing it a couple of months ago, 'high raw', meaning not completely raw, but damn near it, hehe. I still eat meat, but cut out pretty much all dairy and will be phasing out meat (animal protein) too. I eat grains and seeds and nuts, but I soak and sprout them. I eat some processed carbs, but in the form of sprouted grain tortillas and my own sprouted flat breads. I make my own fermented pickles and sour kraut. I practice food combining as well, as much as I can, because I can tell the difference between when I do and when I don't. Not all raw eaters do, you just gotta listen to your body. I've had had good eating habits before, but this helped me lose weight and gain energy and be without sickness while people around me (even my live-in bf) were falling like flies all winter.

I am now at 80% raw and I don't really aspire to become 100% permanently, I feel well as I am now. Note: it can be pretty time consuming, and I wish I had a bigger refrigerator to keep all my goodies instead of having to prepare them almost daily. It's worth it for me though, I did it more for my future health and to avoid coming down with the inherited problems like thyroid malfunction and high blood pressure/cholesterol. Also, the more you do it, the more you know what you do and don't like, you can prepare some dehydrated stuff ahead of time, and make different dressings to keep on hand or just blend up a soup from whatever you have in your fridge :)

I recommend downloading 'High Raw' from Kevin Gianni and subscribing to his renegadehealthshow.com blog. Amazing stuff. I also own 'I am Grateful' which is a food prep book based on Cafe Gratitude in San Francisco, 'Green for Life' from Victoria Butenko and 'Raw Food Detox Diet' from Natalia Rose.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Kudos to all of you who are at least motivated and brave enough to post on this thread!

And thank you egrandi for your personal experience with the raw food diet. I've been looking at alternative healing/holistic approach and the raw food diet makes sense to a certain degree... But yet still not. Do you really get enough of the nutrients? Oh, and is raw fish (sushi/sashimi) recommended or does it just depend on your personal preference? From your experience, you mentioned weight loss, lower cholesterol, and generally feeling better. About how long did that start taking place?

I ate pretty healthily today, had a huge salad for dinner (all raw, lol! I don't know if I'm gonna take the plunge into the raw food diet but hey - it's true that cooking destroys some nutrients and if I can easily enjoy some foods raw, such as salad, I'll gladly do it as often as possible) and a veggie pasta for lunch with what looked like sprinkles of pasta on an ocean of greens. I didn't exercise today though. I really don't have an excuse except that I'm too sleepy now and am having mood swings. I hope y'all are more on-track than I am!

I definitely think I get enough nutrition: raw is not just salads, hehe. I eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, sea vegetables, oils, nuts, seeds and grains. I don't starve myself at all. The fermented veggies help with the digestion, especially when I decide to eat something cooked. For now, I try to keep the 'raw till dinner' regimen, and eat something sensible but not necessarily raw for dinner. I'm still working towards becoming closer to sustainable food: I try to only eat local produce for example, and started growing my own in my friend's garden. If you don't want to cut out animal protein, then sushi is a fine meal. It really helps that you love your salads, it's the most difficult part for some people.

You need to make sure you transition yourself into the new diet, you can't just go raw right away, you can shock your system due to the detox. I had some episodes, but I can only blame myself and learned from my mistakes. Some books say the process (going 100% raw) should take 1 or 2 years, so your body would get used to it, but you can implement raw-only periods for extra cleansing. The weight loss happened immediately, and now my weight is stabilized after 2 months. I didn't need to lose much, just a bit of love handles :) The energy thing started soon after too: I noticed I didn't need my morning two cups of black tea any more. As for the cholesterol and the other stuff, those are things that I'm trying to avoid in the future, as part of my family medical history. There are people out there who reversed their diabetes by going fully raw.

It really depends on what you need to achieve, but in my opinion, 'high raw' is a very good way to live a healthy and ecologically responsible life.
