And thank you egrandi for your personal experience with the raw food diet. I've been looking at alternative healing/holistic approach and the raw food diet makes sense to a certain degree... But yet still not. Do you really get enough of the nutrients? Oh, and is raw fish (sushi/sashimi) recommended or does it just depend on your personal preference? From your experience, you mentioned weight loss, lower cholesterol, and generally feeling better. About how long did that start taking place?
I definitely think I get enough nutrition: raw is not just salads, hehe. I eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, sea vegetables, oils, nuts, seeds and grains. I don't starve myself at all. The fermented veggies help with the digestion, especially when I decide to eat something cooked. For now, I try to keep the 'raw till dinner' regimen, and eat something sensible but not necessarily raw for dinner. I'm still working towards becoming closer to sustainable food: I try to only eat local produce for example, and started growing my own in my friend's garden. If you don't want to cut out animal protein, then sushi is a fine meal. It really helps that you love your salads, it's the most difficult part for some people.
You need to make sure you transition yourself into the new diet, you can't just go raw right away, you can shock your system due to the detox. I had some episodes, but I can only blame myself and learned from my mistakes. Some books say the process (going 100% raw) should take 1 or 2 years, so your body would get used to it, but you can implement raw-only periods for extra cleansing. The weight loss happened immediately, and now my weight is stabilized after 2 months. I didn't need to lose much, just a bit of love handles

The energy thing started soon after too: I noticed I didn't need my morning two cups of black tea any more. As for the cholesterol and the other stuff, those are things that I'm trying to avoid in the future, as part of my family medical history. There are people out there who reversed their diabetes by going fully raw.
It really depends on what you need to achieve, but in my opinion, 'high raw' is a very good way to live a healthy and ecologically responsible life.
