Hi - I understand that some of the colours which have been added to the permanent collection were once debuted as GWPs - colours like Vineyard and Sandy. I'm wondering if, at some point, other GWPs or limited edition colours could come back, either a small batch to revisit a limited edition collection, or permanent colours?
Maybe if there is an event, or anniversary, or special occasion for Silk Naturals in the calender, there could be a 'nostalgia' collection for old favourites to return temporarily? Maybe, in some way, who knows maybe even a vote could be had to nominate the 'most wanted' so that it's not a wasteful exercise.
I guess that with large colour collections, we don't often re-purchase our favourites so maybe the sales figures don't reflect how loved a colour was. I've never bought a 2nd Idolize yet as I'm still working through it six months later, but I'd have palpitations if I spilled a drop or misplaced it.
Or... simply, is it better to have newer colours more often, instead? What do you think, ladies?
Old favourite colours (GWPs etc) or newer colours?
Re: Old favourite colours (GWPs etc) or newer colours?
I agree. Idolize must NEVER go away. Have to have it. I'm down to about 350 e/s's now, but that one I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT. But everyone who has it feels that way, so it's likely a keeper anyway.
I trust Karen to come up with interesting GWPs and I'm glad she's made some of them permanent - I never would have got Vineyard otherwise.
My big problem is that it takes 2 - 3 weeks to do a paypal transfer from my bank, so by the time something's going to be pulled, I'm often too late to grab a back-up or two. I did manage to get two more Beloved Kiss Bliss's before they went away (that being one of the very few lipsticks I'd used nearly an entire tube of), but XOXO had sold out completely by the time there was money in the paypal account, so the rest of that gets rationed (another one that's in danger of disappearing).
Eye shadows I never seem to run out of because even though I've given away a few hundred I still have a few hundred, though accidents happen, true. I've not run out of a blush yet, though Flirt, Petal, and Tart Light must stay forever - Flirt and Tart Light I will probably run out of this year. Carnal is my other must-have there, but I don't use it as often as it's my special occasion blush. I use other ones, too, but those are my basics - haven't tried any of the new releases from the last two waves yet, though I will be soon, then who knows?
Other than that, I've actually had to refill the mascara, foundation, Perfecting Powder, and Datebait so far. Which is saying quite a lot for me.
And I'm almost out of my sample DMAE and Vit C Peptide serums. MUST BE REFILLED. I've got boatloads of hyaluronic acid here, but I think I'm actually liking the SN moisturising serums better though it took my skin about a week to adjust. Still, the HAs will do me for a while, then I'll switch over. So.......
I think the mix that's going now is good - I was happy to get Shamrock as a GWP, if I got an oldie or a new product that I didn't like I'd give it away, and they're usually something fun regardless.
I'm the only one who has to wait between one to three months for packages from the States - it's the postal service our end, not Karen's, since it happens with everybody, but why it's always makeup or skincare that actually goes missing (I've had something like five SN and three GoW orders that were sent and simply didn't arrive at all and had to be resent) I have no idea. Books get here fine, probably cos when customs opens them they're either in a language nobody reads or so geeky nobody wants them.
Right now I'm waiting on two SN packages and a package from Chagrin Valley, so am Duly Nervous, especially as one of the SN packages got sent over three weeks ago - and was a resend of something that never arrived (I guess everybody loves the Shimmery Party Quad). Aarrgghhh! If anybody knows anyone at Canadian customs, will they kindly direct the customs officers over to this site so they can buy their own makeup instead of stealing mine?

Re: Old favourite colours (GWPs etc) or newer colours?
Helena you're always so creative and smart (your explanation of the vitamin c serum still has me wowed). Pretty much nothing is ever gone forever- there were a few GWP's that were true LE's (melange was just that...a melange that I don't have a prayer of cloning), but I do like to keep them "special"- special colors for special occasions. Some day the muse will strike and I'll put a few of the old favorites up- but when in the schedule??? what schedule??? that's the fun of being self-employed...I'm hoping that when the time is right the muse will whisper-either that or customers will yell...that's pretty much how the SN release cycles go..either inspiration or demand.
Rhys- don't worry- Flirt, Tart light and Idolize aren't going anywhere. Usually I base the discontinuing decisions a little bit on sales, but mostly on reviews...because you're both right- who actually uses up much of anything?

Will you be releasing GWP eyeshadows like Elle in your eyeshadow collection?
