Which red lippie?

Post by violet » Mon Apr 14, 2014 12:19 pm

Hi, my skin has yellow undertones and is fair, my eyes have hazel color (more brown than green) and my hair has mahogany color (i use henna, so it is brown but on sun is more red). Could you recommend me nice red lippie? :) Or maybe some coral, or pinkish lippie for everyday look. Thank you :)

violet, you could be my twin (judging from your description) :D

reds i love:
- nectar
- strawberry fields (perfection!!)
- cayenne (but i haven't tried the new formula yet)
- dixie lipstain (2 layers and it's really red)

everyday pinks i love:
- soft (perfection!!)
- rare berry (it's between pink and a muted red on me)
- gold blush
- tease ("for those pale girls with yellow undertones") ;)

corals i love:
- blushberry (it's labeled as pink, but on me it's very corally)
- jolt (or grab some peachy keen from the last chance section, they are very similar!!)
- bustle

colours that didn't work for me:
- luscious
- bombshell
- operative
- clandestine

Who knows, maybe we are  Thanks for your answer, i will check these colors out, although i prefer lipstick - i just really don´t like glosses or too glossy finish.
Have you tried any of these: Zing, Vroom, Crimson, Jane, Pow, B-52? Not sure if they would suit me :?:

if you prefer lipsticks, then you should definitely check out cayenne. i used to love it in the old formular, kisser slicker if i remember correctly. sadly mine turned after a while, but with my colouring it was the perfect red lip. not too vampy, but still grown-up, if you know what i mean.

i actually have zing, totally forgot that i did  so many lippies that i need to keep track of them in a spreadsheet. i cannot remember if i liked it or not, but i'll wear it to work tomorrow (i'm so brave  ) and let you know.

i don't have any of the others, though. i generally steer clear of anything described as "cool toned" or even "a little on the cooler side". anything too blue toned makes me look unhealthy and blotchy.

b-52 does look tempting, but i'm currently on a makeup no-buy, so that's a bit of a bummer :(

Yay, I am very curious about Zing, so I will be waiting for your feedback
Cayenne looks interesting too :) I have tendency to choose more cool toned lippies, although i am not sure if they actually suits me, i just like them better in the tube :D
For now, i would like to buy one or two lipsticks, because i always forget to wear them. I put on just lipbalm and then i am jealous of girls with bolder lips :)

I am very fair with yellow undertones, green eyes, and light brown hair. I tend to wear cool toned lippies, but in the summer I work some warmer shades into my routine.
I actually feel like I do not look good in reds at all. Except Strawberry Fields, it just gives the tiniest hint of color, and look really natural.
My favorite lip colors are: Asset, Bramble, Provoke, Innocent.... and quite a few others.
I really like the new Cosmopolitan lipstick as well as the B-52 one.

so - as promised - i wore zing to work today. let me just say: it's bright!! i combined it with minimal makeup, subtle eyeliner, a bit of peachy blush. all eyes on lips...

and then the funniest thing happened: as i was walking up the stairs to my office, i met a male colleague (who i don't know much at all). i said the usual "good morning" and he literally beamed back at me, saying "good morning, nice lipstick"

i do find that it's complementary to my skin tone and overall colouring (although it kinda emphasizes my grey roots :o so please ignore those). it lasted on my lips for a few hours, i think it even left a bit of stain behind. but those bright lipsticks are just too high-maintenance for me.

oh, and depending on the lighting, it comes off as either a true red or an orange-y red.

hope that helps ;)

bellatete: Hmm, i think i like it, it looks good on you :) And it has to be good if man complimented on it :D Thank you very much for including photo 8-) Btw. do you wear side braid often? Because i do
I also like your brows, do you fill them with some product?

Oxana124: i will check them out, thank you :)

violet, i actually used to wear side braids a lot :D until i cut to many layers in my hair and they always kept falling out on the non-braid-having side.

i was actually thinking the exact same thing... if a man not only notices but also feels the urge to comment (positively) on a lipstick, it must be special. i have to put zing on my list of what to put on when i need a pick-me-up.

regarding my brows: i do fill them in a bit. ever since i started my project pan http://host.silknaturals.com/forum/view ... f=3&t=4553, for which i had nominated an sn brow cream sample, i got into doing my brows. i already finished the brow cream, so now i'm using what must be the cheapest cheapo brow pencil ever (austrian drugstore brand, at least 7 years old  and if i remember correctly, cost less then 1 euro back then). it was never the right colour when i still had my natural mousy dirty blond hair colour, but now with henna-ed hair it matches perfectly

i wonder what else we have in common... ;)
