Neutral shadow recs

Post by foofie437 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 9:24 am

Hi everyone!

I am new to SN and would love some shadow recommendations for an office-friendly, neutral eye look. Doesn't have to be matte. A little shimmah can bring some life into my work day.

Here's the thing, I am very fair with pink undertones. Dirty blonde hair and blue eyes (think ripe blueberries) with light blonde (think nonexistant) lashes and brows. I can't do golds, oranges and warm tones. What do you guys suggest for making my eyes pop? I have Cutie Pie, Miss You, First Kiss, and Tru Luv on my wish list along with the Mahogany liner. But I figured it would be best to check with the experts for more ideas. Can't wait to place my first order!

Thanks in advance for any and all advice. Really appreciate it. :)

Can you be more specific about warm tones? I'm fair with pink too and can't do golds/oranges but SN's pink and purple tinted neutrals work very well for me. I have dark red/black hair and brown eyes though. If you post a picture, Jen is great at knowing what colors are a good match for your face.

My favorite grab and go neutral for work is Loaded. :)

My favorite/fun multipurpose neutral is Flash but if that's too in-your-face sparkly, check out Trouble, Restless or Homecoming Queen. Don't you just love these names? :D And if you feel like branching out, I have a giant pile of pink and purple favorites I would recommend. Cupcake would definitely bring some fun into your day.

Mahogany is quite gorgeous! You should definitely order a sample if nothing else. I'm sorry I haven't tried any of the other colors that you listed but I have been eyeing all of them for a long time now; so if you do decide to get them, please post swatches and what you think of them! ;)

Also, Earth and the other "suede" colors are really nice for work because they have a unique finish that's between shimmer and matte.

Edit: Also if you are new here, do yourself a huge favor and order a lip gloss or two!!! You will never look back!!!

Welcome! I would suggest also looking at cool based taupes - Slate, Mink, Dolce, Brown Sugar. I also like Sandy & Quartzite on my blue eyes. I, too, am fair with cool undertones. Enjoy exploring new colors. I second Feyith's suggestion of trying a lip color or two!

Hi Foofie, welcome. I'd like to assure you that the list of colours you've already chosen are indispensable. They'd be my first choice and are my most used. Based on that and the fact that I've got very similar colouring to you, I hope you'll be encouraged that those are exception for looking natural and polished without looking made-up. I also heartily recommend all the Suede collection as they are an excellent example of what Silk Naturals can do for you - they're flattering and fun and they are richly complex and very pretty to look at.

I find Restless, Bone, Bristol and Bailey to be good staple colours. I can use Restless as a "good night's sleep" crease colour even though it's supposed to be a highlighter (I'm that pale!). I also struggle with warm colours.

Some safe or 'safe but fun' neutral colours to possibly try:
Idolize - everyone needs this
Cupcake (of course!)
EU-Taupe-ia
Earth - the first Suede
Fire - for revving up with a sheer highlighting layer, gold but wearable transparent
Mahalo -for a non-warm metallic
Opal - transparent pink, adds a soft sheen layer on it's own or over another colour
Trouble - I find this a little peachy but if you're not quite as pale as me, it'd compliment your pink tones beautifully.
Whisper -so soft and feminine.

I haven't received the newest colours yet but if you watch for swatches on the swatch thread, you'll get a good idea how they'll look and it'll help you work out what might suit. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks so much everyone! My wish list has now grown. And it includes some glosses. ;)

Next up, planning the first order. Whoo hoo!
