Lipstick Trick

Post by frckls » Wed May 25, 2011 12:32 pm

Okay, maybe lipstick is not exactly right. Most of them are lipglosses. But since they are in a form of stick, I kinda like to call them lipsticks.

Anyway, first of all, I gotta apologize to Karen and the team big time for "accusing" them for "abandoning" us the pigmented lips with the creation of some particular lippies, like Darling and the likes.
When I ordered Darling I had really high hopes. But on the usual Sunday where me and my sisters do our routine playdate with our makeups and I got to try on the new lippies that arrived, I was bummed when saw Darling did nothing to my lips except making me look like wearing clear gloss. I told my fairer sister to try it on, it was REALLY GOOD on her, and just handed it to her. I tried it again a couple more times because I wanted to like it but still it disappointed me each time and I gave up.

Today, I just got another Darling and an Ingenue through a swap. I intended to give Darling to my sister because she really likes it. But since I got the package just right before I left for work, I put them in my purse and brought them along to work.

I tried Ingenue (I thought it would be real peach, but found it showed as pink on my lips, like NYX's Tea Rose, except that it looks garish and horrible on me) and decided to put it on for work, replacing my lightly dabbed Azalea these few days back.
I'm working overtime and just went to the girl's room to try on Darling one more time. This time I layed it on thick, put on some layers, and still only saw the colors of my lips shows through. I went back to my desk, did some work, and forget my lips for a moment.
I got mirror screen protector for my iPhone. When I caught a glimpse of myself on my iPhone screen I saw this beautiful color on my lips. I pull out my small mirror and WOWZA, Darling IS THE MOST GORGEOUS PEACHIE-PINK SHADE!!!
I remember back and realized that many of SN lippies actually look good after I let it settles for some time, then it shows its true color. Almost all of them, in fact. Maiden, Cultured, Mirage, Caramel, St. Tropez, Aria.

So the tricks for pigmented lips ladies are to lay it on thick for the sheer lippies and -the most important thing- let it settles for 1-2minutes. You'll see the gorgeous real color shows through.

I sure hope this can help SN newbies, before deciding that a shade doesn't work on her and give them up or swap them, and then regret. ;)

P.S.: I got the urge to try Darling one last time from seeing Aud's gorgeous lip swatches. Thanks!

P.P.S.: Keep up the good work Karen!! Since I know SN I've been trying to find dupes for every shade in other brands I love.

Yay for you frickls! I did wonder why Darling failed to show up on you from a previous post (it's not as sheer as, say Precious/Foreplay/Mimosa on me).

SN's Lipglosses/stuff/sticks are also very moisturising. I like to smoosh on the sheer colours on my lips in thick layers because they just feel so good :P
Current SN foundation mix: 4 Buttery Gold: 2 Yellow Boosters: 21 Medium Ivory: 8 Original Ivory: 3 Glow

I know! Now I feel bad for the girl I got the swaps from. She doesn't know what she was missing! It turns out all I had to do was just wait! My weakest point, but it pays off.

But really Darling shows more color than Foreplay and Mimosa? They're already in my cart! But I guess stubborn curious me will checkout with them in anyway. :p

Here're Foreplay & Mimosa swatched on my lips if that helps

I've used all 3 up so I can't quite do a quick swatch on my arm anymore. But off the top of my head, Darling had more "colour" and Foreplay & Mimosa were sheerer but with more shimmer. Both are kinda similar.

Yeah I got what you were trying to say! And I already saw your swatch of Darling in the Truly vs Foreplay thread as well. Darling is more like the lips' naturals blush while foreplay and mimosa are more nude. I never had any other choice than to have all three!

Oh by the way, how long was it until you use one up?

P.S.: I saw your Genuine swatch and I felt I made the right choice putting it in the cart. However, dont you think it would be great if Genuine is a taaaaddd bit more opaque??

lol how soon do I use them up? When I first started off on SN, pretty fast 4 - 6 months each. But as my collection grew and with it, lippie rotation, they've been stretching out. Close to a year or over, depending on the colour.

Yup, Genuine's a tad sheer and requires quite a few layers for the colour to show up. I love the shade and finish and how it has no glitter. Just wish it could be more pigmented.

:)

Add me to the list! :D I love the color and finish of Genuine, too, but it tends to fade quickly on me. I have to apply it super-heavy for it show.

Well, that is surprising. So far I was thinking that Foreplay and Mimosa had more color than Darling. It seems that Foreplay and Mimosa are sheerer and shimmer than Darling. Either way, I am going to check out the three this coming weekend and ill update you which I find more color.
