Coconut Argan Cleansing Conditioner

Post by superwahz » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:39 pm

I admit I was pretty skeptical of this working when the tube came in the mail. I'm one of those women who uses handfuls of VO5 conditioner to get enough on to cleanse without having to shampoo, and some days I still end up using shampoo! Rinsing is a drag, of course, and I hate using so much product, even if it's affordable... So I had high hopes for this cleansing conditioner, even though part of me was being it's usual, skeptical self. I have bra strap length, pretty oily hair. At best I go every other day, and that's with the second day spent up in a ponytail or bumming it around the house... On the day I used this I'd skipped a day of washing, so my hair was extra oily. I kind of thought it wasn't fair, so figured if it didn't get totally clean it would be my fault for expecting it to cut through days of oil.

I read the thread for the other conditioner and was intrigued by packgal's suggestions on how she uses it (thank you so much packgirl!). I've never had a cleansing conditioner lather and seriously, only a few teaspoons? Hah! But I decided to follow her instructions and give it a good go. Soaked my hair while counting to 60, stingily distributed a tsp around the front and sides of my hairline, a second through the crown, and a third to the nape/back of my hair. I missed the heavily coated feel of the "other" stuff, but pushed that aside and kept going. I added a bit of water, rubbed everything in really well, massaged my scalp for a moment, then left it be to go about the rest of my shower. After a few minutes I added a bit of water and started to massage my scalp again like I would with a shampoo and to my surprise, there was actual lather!! :o The heavy, conditioner feel gave way to a more soapy feel, and I was able to work the lather through the length of my hair. I was shocked to say the least! After another minute or two I rinsed, making sure to flip my head over and rinse the underside for a bit, then back to the crown...and lo and behold, clean, squeaky hair! :D

I don't care that this cost more than the cheap stuff I was using...it gives better results with FAR less product and packaging! Oh...and the scent? *swoons* Such a light, fresh, creamy scent, reminds me of a creamscicle, same as the hair oil. It isn't heavy, it (unfortunately) doesn't linger forever, but it's so pleasant to smell when using it! It's a scent I'll be happy to use year round. My hair is softer, less heavy/more bouncy, and my scalp less itchy!

Total win in my book Karen, thank you a million times over, it's perfect! I'd like to suggest that you put packgirl's usage tips in the body of the product description on the site, or as a link to a document called "tips from our forum users" or something like that. I can honestly say if I hadn't used her suggestions I would have used more product and probably gotten much less satisfactory results because I wouldn't have worked all the steps. Loads of kudos to her and everyone who suggested similar tips! I am one very happy customer...and already calculating how often a tube will last me so I can reorder before I run out! I have a bunch of the "other" stuff to use...but it's sitting neglected.

Next time I'll be sure to use it as you just described. I wash my hair every other night, so tomorrow I'll try that.

I used it for the first time last night. I just massaged what looked to be a few teaspoons into my scalp, added a little more to get the under layers, combed through to distribute evenly, worked it through a little more, let it sit for about 5 minutes while I showered (head not under running water of course), then rinsed it out and as a precaution used an ACV rinse like I normally do because my skin is so finicky that it's not really worth seeing if it's going to react or not. More than likely, I'd break out from residual product. But this process left my hair feeling much cleanser than I thought it would, and so soft and healthy too. This is just what my curly hair needs, I think.

And I haven't broken out from it yet. Whether that was because the product won't make me react or because of the rinse, I don't know. But as long as it continues not to make my skin freak out, I'll purchase this item for life.

i'm glad those tips worked for you! again i think i learned them from being interested in wen and then purchasing hair one...i pretty much follow the directions on the back of the hair one bottle with a few tweaks. i'll repost here for anybody who didn't see what i do in feyith's thread.
-- first i rinse for 60 seconds. i actually count to sixty as i do it, otherwise i'd probably stop at like 30 seconds thinking i'd done it for a minute.
--then i take a teaspoon and put in on the top of my head and massage it into the hair on the top and around my hairline for about 30 seconds. i do the same with another teaspoon on the crown of my head and then another teaspoon underneath my hair at the nape of my neck.
--then, i stick my head under the shower for a half second to add a little water, then massage the heck out of all my hair again. the water added at this point actually makes the cleansing conditioner lather a fair bit.
--i leave this all in for another 2-3 minutes as i finish my other shower activities,
--then i rinse for another 60 seconds at least, counting again. sometimes 90 seconds.
i have fine, pretty short hair (just below chin length--it is shorter now than in my avatar). for people with thicker or longer hair i would think that you would probably have to rinse longer (before and after using the product) and use more conditioner, and massage for longer as well.

If I'm reading this right, you don't really distribute it on the rest of your hair, just massage it mostly into your scalp? Also, do you do a second, shorter conditioning step as suggested on the bottle? I usually just dump a tablespoon on my head, distribute, massage, and do another smaller amount at the end that I comb through, but I could use the extra few mins I save by skipping this to apply eye shadow ;)

Heidi--it's nice how it doesn't weigh down your hair, eh? With it being so thick I expected my hair would feel heavy, but it rinses so clean!

Packgirl--Thank you for reposting that here, I was secretly hoping you would! :D

Egerandi--I don't do the second application...just the first go. Letting it sit and then doing the "lather" step allows me to work the product through the length of my hair, though in truth I rarely wash the "ponytail" of my hair because it is drier and needs more moisture/less stripping and I've found the lather/run off from other products closer to the scalp normally does a good enough job of cleaning it. That said, I don't use styling products so don't deal with build up along the length either.

If I feel like my hair is a bit dry after I rinse everything out, I use a leave-in conditioner, the hair oil, or a touch of an intensive conditioner. But for the most part the above step takes care of everything and my hair is pretty detangled. Starting the product at the scalp/crown and then lathering through to the ends seems to work great for me!

I tried that on a hunch today (before reading this): do the three steps with one teaspoon each, didn't lather much, but I don't really mind :) I also combed through to the ends, and didn't use a second application. It felt less smooth getting out of the shower, but worked just as fine for the blow drying, using the volumizing gel. I think I'm all set :)

yeah, i don't do a second application. by using the 3 teaspoons on different parts of my head, most of my hair gets covered. like i mentioned i have short, fine hair, so just kind of concentrating on my scalp usually gets most of my hair involved in the massaging. similar to what tiara described, i don't really distribute it throughout my hair. if i had thicker or longer hair, i might pay attention to that a little more.
