Help me not look tired *UPDATED 4/29*

Post by nfig » Wed Apr 28, 2010 8:50 am

So this morning my mother in law said to me, "Rough night, you look really tired." I'm not tired :-(

I took this picture of me this morning so you can all see what she sees and give me some advice on what types/shades of makeup I should wear so I don't look tired. This morning I have on SN foundation, lovelace blush, and on the eyes I have Dolce, Sandstone, Diamond.

Sorry for the dumb look on my face.

Okay so here is a pic of me this morning with some updated makeup. I tried to use what I have before placing an order. I know it's hard to tell in this lighting (stupid camera phone). I have on: Sleep in a Jar mixed with Cherub under eyes, Climax blush with a little bit of Cherub over it. On the eyes, Nekkid, Sandstone, black eyeliner and mascara, and a little bit of Sandstone on the inner corners. On lips - Precious. Is it any better?

First off you look great!!

There was this lady I worked w/ that out of the blue would say things to me like, "ARE YOU CRYING, YOU LOOK AWFUL", "ARE YOU SICK", "NO SLEEP LAST NIGHT", "IS EVERYTHING OK, YOU LOOK UPSET". I swear it always happened when I thought I was looking and feeling GREAT. I wanted to say , "WERE YOU RAISED BY CHIMPS!!"

This time of year I really do look tired and allergy stricken. I find Tart LIght really helps to look healthy and awake (I was just about to post a review saying this). Also, I use Splendid lightly on my lids and a hint on my cheeks, really adds a natural glow and a light gloss or Full and Smooth. For me less is more when I want to look awake.

you do not look tired to me :)
when you listed what makeup you had on you did not mention concealer, are you wearing one? (underneath your eyes I mean) Because I notice with myself if I don't wear under eye concealer I tend to look tired. Other things that tend to give a more awake appearance is using some sort of pearly light colored highlight shade and applying that in the inner corners of the eyes as well as under the outer half of the bottom lashline. Going for a more "dewy" look also gives a more awake appearance. HTH!

Oxana - I'm using a maybelline mineral concealer. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

You do look great! I have dark circles (and problems getting to sleep before 1am lol) and I love wearing blue/purple liners, they really show them up...

I know there are pressure points around the eyes to help with drainage to stop the just got out of bed puffiness, I just googled quickly and found this - http://store.annabellina.com/acfalyma.html

Don't you hate it when people say stuff like that  and JenK you are right...always seems like it's a time where I think I am looking great :(

Nfig, things I do are a light pearly highlight shade, and I am with Oxana on an under eye concealer. For me, a pink one seems to neutralize any dark circles and brightens up that area. Also, a white liner on the water line gives the appearance of...erm...can't think of the word I am looking for :geek: I guess being alert...idk it helps though.

btw...I think you look great :)

If THIS is how you look when you are tired then PLEASE, can I have some?...
You are very pretty :)

But I also know that sometimes when people say things like that, they say it -not always because of cirkles under the eyes- but the look we can sometimes have in our eyes when we are doing something or pondering over a problem or whatever. Actually sometimes people can mistake that as "tired". I know I have that problem...

I agree with MLH . . . sometimes it can be a look we have that says "tired." You look great!

I know I really need an undereye concealer . . . genetics and allergies are not helping me in the undereye area! I have been lazy lately, and I can really see a difference. Also agree about the light highlighter shades on the inner corners of the eyes.

I also like certain colors of blush and lipgloss when I am trying to not look "tired"! Flare with Mirabelle (or Truly, if you got that one!). Raindrops on Roses is a great lippie to brighten my complexion, too. Really, the peachy colors work the absolute best, but something about Raindrops on Roses is a boost, too!

Hope this helps!! Again, you look great. Next, time if you are feeling mean, ask the lady if SHE is tired!!! ;)

i get that all the time because apparenty when i focus i look "sad". That and my eyes and mouth naturally curve down instead of up- there's really nothing i can do for that but smile and i don't want to smile ALL the time.

I do have dark circles and undereye concealer is a must for looking awake- for me, it's yellow. I also use white eyeliner on the lower waterline and lighter colored shadows on the inner corners. i try to avoid superdark liners (i almost never wear black liner but opt for a brown. I also use brown mascara instead of black). I have noticed that i get asked the "are you ok?" question more often when i do smokey eyes(even if it's brown or green) than if i do a lighter eye (peaches, golds). I think my shadow looks great those days, but clearly the darkness isn't doing something for me. You may try rocking some lighter eye looks now and then and see the response you get (if i read correctly you're doing greys in your picture). I've also noticed that a strategically placed glow can do wonders for lifting the complexion. I'd recommend splendid.

I prefer a cream based concealer- SN has a nice one that hasn't been released yet, but i highly recommend it if/when it hits the shelves. My fav. was UGG's buttercup but they stopped making it and are not even open anymore. The newest one i found is Progress in Health on etsy- they make an all natural cream concealer stick in concealer and corrector colors (i own one in yellow). It's not as opaque and is a little heavy on the oils, but if you set it with a powder (like SN's sleep in a jar) it works pretty well.

I have The All Natural Face's concealer stick and it is very similar to the SN concealer that was a gumball. But they are both a little too solid for me. I should give them another try now that it is warm out, maybe they got a little softer.
