Emergency Surgery

Post by Hoyden » Thu Mar 18, 2010 6:48 pm

I had massive chest pain on Monday night, so Mark forced me to go to the ER. What they thought was pleurisy turned out to be a very nasty gall bladder infection with a stone lodged in the duct. Admitted from the ER & had surgery on Tuesday to remove the gall bladder. I came home yesterday & have pretty much just been sleeping. I've probably slept 20 of the last 26 hours.

I had laproscopic surgery, so I only have a few little holes that are surrounded by HUGE bruises. I like the surgeon, he understood my fears about surgery, answered all my questions and actually called me today to make sure I was okay.

I'm grounded for the next two weeks. Oh Joy! I hate being grounded.

Oh wow, I'm so glad he made you go to the ER! It's great they were still able to do it laproscopically even though it was emergency surgery, your "grounded" period should be much less than with other surgical methods.

On the upside, with all that downtime, you'll have lots of time to indulge in make up therapy! Lots of well wishes, I hope your recovery is quick and you're back on your feet in no time!

Thank you for all the well wishes Ladies. :)

I went to the two week post op appointment on Monday. I'm partially "ungrounded" to limited activity for the next two weeks, but other than that all is healing well. The fall I took 3/23 didn't cause too much damage. The internal bleeding that happened after I came home is healing with a spectacular array of bruising on my lower abdomen.

The surgeon said the infection was pretty bad, if I didn't go to the ER when we did, the gall bladder would have ruptured due to necrosis & that has very good chance of being be fatal.

It scares me that I didn't have very much pain from the gall bladder itself, most of the pain was from the pleurisy. Had those two things not happened at the same time, I would have ignored the gall bladder pain until it was too late. Apparently, I have a ridiculously high tolerance to pain.

I am relieved that I can do more because I doubt that I could have stood being forced to take it easy too much longer, I was ready to climb the walls.
