Need help with Skin after using Duac

Post by Jessica » Thu Nov 05, 2009 1:16 pm

First off, hi there. I'm new to the forum, decided to register because I loved how kind Karen is.
Secondly, darnit, I was expecting 'Jessica' to be taken otherwise I would have used a different user name LOL

Anyway, here's what's happened: I have been using Duac for little over, or just about two weeks now. My Doctor presribed it to me to use around my t-zone area (forehead especially where I was getting stress spots)
Now my skin isn't really that oily anymore.

But a week ago into my Duac usage I got an unknown harsh breakout of ITCHINESS all over my neck, jawline, behind my ears for two days in a row! It's calmed down but now my skin (most notably my neck and behind my ears) are soooo sensitive. :( My neck still has broken skin.

I accidentally over-cleansed and hurt my skin barrier, so right now my skin is a little dry (especially where I apply Duac. My jawline is flaking a tiny bit) and a little sensitive. I'm looking for recommendations for a moisturiser for Duac usage/ dry and sensitive skin, and want to know what to use to help heal it and what to use to stop scratching. I heard Eucerin Q10 Sensitive was great, but I don't see that line in-stock here (I live in the UK.)
My eyelid is also kinda on the dry side! It's so wrinkley and puffy D:

Additional info: I am 18 years old and Asian (Chinese) and I live in a daily damp and rather cold Country! I have medium-sized pores and some clogged ones. Please DO NOT recommend me anything that may contain medium-high concentration of fruit (pesticides I assume) , nuts or honey (pollen I assume) - I am allergic to all of these! Thanks!

Thank you so much in advance! I've asked EVERYWHERE and have never gotten a good reply! Even asked on the acne forum :(

I am not sure what forums you have posted on.

Besides the acne forum, what forums have you tried? Did you try makeupalley.com and in particular the skin care board?

I am not much help as I have not used Duac. I have had reactions to products. I have gotten that itchy rash on neck, face and sometimes I am not sure what triggers it. Sometimes I have gotten this from new products. I only try or change one thing at a time in my skin care routine.

I am not sure what you have in the UK. I am in Canada. The blandest, simplest moisturizer I can think of would be something like Complex 15 or (more moisturizing) Cetaphil cream (green tube). This is a drugstore item. I also like to spray my face with mineral water. I like Avene or La Roche Posay. It feels soothing always and especially when my face has flared up.

I like to use Avene or La Roche Posay for skin care. A lot of the products are designed for sensitive skin.

Yes, I've asked on MUA and their skin care board, I'm a regular there.

I was told to go to my Doctors and ask about it but I wanted to try doing something about it before seeking consultation.. I have difficulty reaching the clinic.

A lot of people find it hard to believe for some reason that Duac has dried out my oilyness for some reason?

Was going to start using it every second or third day too, but I needed a really good moisturiser to use for then.

Thank you very much for your reply! I am grateful.

Have you tried acne.org? I read the author's 3-step regimen, he used to suffer from acne and has some recommendations at http://www.acne.org/findingsupplies2.php#step3. Have you considered Simple since it is fragrance and colour free? HTH.

I'm also on acne medication and use Fancl to keep flakiness at bay, but I don't think it's available in UK.

Maybe just a really simple aqueous cream for the moment? I don't think we can get the stuff for the acne.org regimen over here. A while ago I was using Zineryt (sp?) off my doctor and that worked brilliantly.
