Which moisturizer should I try/use?

Post by sampey99 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:23 pm

Hi,

I need some help deciding which moisturizer to try or use for my skin and thought I would ask all you wonderful members. I have combination skin, oily in the T-zone and normal everywhere else. I am looking for a moisturizer to wear mainly in the morning under my makeup. Also, I don't have a lot of time to put on 2 or 3 different moisturizers/serums. So, after all of that, what moisturizer or serum would you recommend I try?

Thanks,

Cindy

I'd recommend sampling before you buy full sizes, but I'd suggest trying the Intensive Moisturiser and the Jojoba. I've tried them all (apart from Emu) and I suggest these based on how heavy / thick I find the oils to be. They all have different nourishing properties, so that is something else to consider, but as the info you've given is based on how oily your skin is (and where), I'd recommend a fairly lightweight moisturiser. Your skin is fairly well balanced, and that means it's producing enough sebum (oil) so too heavy / thick an oil might feel slightly like it's 'suffocating' the skin.

To explain that, my skin was very dehydrated (lacking water) which causes the oil glands to go into overdrive, pump out the sebum (oil) to add a protective layer to the skin to 'waterproof' or 'seal in' the precious little water that I had in my skin cells. This sebum oil helps prevent the loss of water from the skin cells through evaporation, that in turn helps them stay looking plum and smooth. Adding in a serum quickly helped that dehydration. My skin is now balanced thanks to the GT&A serum but when I switched to Super Serum, I found my forehead as I need a little more hydration in that area. I find that the Intensive and Jojoba moisturisers have the lighter thicknesses of oils and are enough for my skin as my skin produces enough oil. Others like Hemp and Raspberry are a thicker oil and can help when skin is drier, sensitive or struggling wih breakouts. The Firming moisturiser is very similar to Intensive but I find that a little thicker / heavier too.

As for serums, the Super Serum is a real winner, packed full of so many nourishing ingredients. If you have sensitive skin, you might find it too much. Also be aware that if you use it while you're using an AHA in your routine, you'll get a redness reaction. The Vitamin C with Peptide serum is also ingredient rich and works well used regularly, or for a short course 'pick me up' complexion brightener. The Oatmeal and Rose serums are very hydrating so may offer more hydration than your skin needs, but that doesn't mean that you can't use them, of course. Generally though, it's a simple and quick way to get a LOT of good benefits in one serum - GT&A serum is a safe option and Super Serum really lives up to it's name.

If you want to add one thing at a time and be sure that it's right for you, go with the moisturisers first and perhaps use the simple and gentle Green Tea and Aloe serum initially. It's great for your combi skin type too. Then you can switch to more complex ingredient-packed serums if you like later. Good luck.
