Changing routine for winter

Post by Vroni » Sun Oct 04, 2009 9:21 am

Hi guys,

now that the cold days are back, my skin is freaking out. Not breaking out, but being really oily after a few hours. I think the culprit may be the dry air from the heaters.
I´m doing the same routine as I did in summer:
1) ACO
2) Toner
3) Vit C or SuperSerum + Oatmeal
4) Moisturizer (Raspberry or Emu)
Once or twice a week exfoliating with AHA or BHA.

Til now I´ve tried changing to Intensive moisturizer, but that doesn´t seem to make a difference.
The only thing that works is Strawberry Spritz (where´s the full size ;) ) und reapplying serum&moisturizer every few hours. Of course with foundation on, that´s not a solution.

Does someone have an idea what could help?

Thanks :)

What you need is more hydration (water) in your skin, not so much stronger moisturiser (oil) sealing it in. The reason it is producing more oil is in 'desperation' trying to preserve the precious little amount of water within the skin cells that is currently there by adding more and more of the skin sebum (oil) as a protective layer to keep the skin's own water in the cells and not lost away from the skin surface by evapouration (such as in hot dry air environments). Think of it a bit like using loft insulation to keep the heat in the house - the oil is there to help keep the water in the skin cells, which in turn keeps the skin cells turgid (firm) and not flaccid (shrunken, crepey like an old balloon).

Try adding in a serum that gives more of a boost of hydration. I've used and adore both the Super Serum and VitC+Peptide serums but neither give me quite enough hydration on their own so I use the Green Tea & Aloe serum. I can't do without the goodies in the other serums, of course, so I tend to mix them together or simply just apply one over the other as they both sink in so quickly.

The more you can do to add drinks of clean fresh water into your day, the better for hydration (and health generally) too.

Thank you :)
That´s exactly what I thought, I´m just not that eloquente in english.
I´m a bad drinker, I admit it ^^
I´m up to 3l a day now (from 1l), I doubt I can up that even more.

Normally I´d do Super or Vit C first, then after a few minutes I´d use the Oatmeal. But I´ll try using Oatmeal and Aloe at the same time, and reduce Vit C or Super Serum to nightly use only.

I´ll report in a few days if that helped :)

Thanks again for the advice :P
