hello everyone,
I have been reading old messages on the forums in anticipation of receiving my first order. So much great information---so many of my initial questions/answers were already there! Thank you!
I got my order earlier in the week and am thrilled. The shadows especially are lovely. . . and the eyeshadow primer! Where has this stuff been all my life??
I am fairly new to mineral makeup. I recently realized a worsening paraben allergy (horrid, itchy rash), so it has been quite an adventure purging all of that stuff from my life. I have tried a few of the newer mass-market "natural" lines (Physicians formula organics, Almay pure stuff), but can already tell that SN is head and shoulders above all that.
I am having a bit of difficulty with my foundation. I got the sample kit to try to work that out before I got a full size. I think that I am fairly straight forward: a fairly light pink/peach skin tone. I never had too much trouble with premixed lines. I was usually right at the gradiation b/t the first two tones of the common brands: Fair/light to light/medium. It depended on the product which I chose, or sometimes I just mixed the two lightest tones. I have worked out that my SN starting place is 1ebony:7-8white base. It is the right level of color, but seems to be missing a "pink" note??? I am puzzled as to what might fix that. Should I have used Olive instead?? Is there some other product on the website that would help? I noticed that the "blur" products seem a little pinkish. I don't especially need the oil control, but I guess it couldn't hurt. Any thoughts welcome! -Genie

Re: Newbie and need help with foundation
Hi Genie,
I don't think Olive will be the answer if you need more pink, and Ebony is mostly neutral. If you are missing pink, there are a few ways to add some.
A very slight amount of Peach base will pink it up a little. I recommend getting a sample. Peach is one of our darkest color bases, so you will need more Ivory with that one. I would add it to your mix in portions smaller than a scoop and then adjust the color depth by adding Ivory. It is possible that Peach base will be what you need as your only color base (then you will be about a 1 Peach:12-14 Ivory). I wish I could give you an accurate ratio on what you need to add to your Ebony mix, but I think you are one of the first who needs more pink than Ebony. Try eyeballing a half scoop and then adding 6 Ivory.
We also have a pinkish finisher in Date Bait as well as the color of the Blur. The finishers will add a slight amount of color, but not near as much as using the Peach color base.
