Pressing SN eyeshadows

U ladies are all so supportive! I love this place!!!!! I can't tell you how many other forums I've been to, that I just had to leave because there was drama and negativity. Here, even with critiques, you're all so tactful and kind! Its like, you all inspire me to do better because its the spirit of camaraderie and support, rather than shame and fear. Thank you for all the metaphors. It really put all that untactful statement into a calibrated perspective.

I have to agree with Jen about adding back unnecessary ingredients. Even as I was planning my pressing experiment, I was thinking: What in the world is Dimethicone? And are there any side effects?

Also, I do like being able to just tap out a fresh dash of powder each time to use, rather than double dipping into the pot.

The biggest draw for pressing is being able to carry the colors around with me easily. I'll probably have to DIY some kind of carrier/display unit if I want to travel with it.

BTW, I never got round to asking: what is DH? Darling Hubby? Dashing Heartthrob? Devilishly Handsome? Delightfully Helpful?

ps. I am a fan of store bought pie crust. i tried making my own but its such a lot of cleaning up after that. And dun get me started on filo pastry!

I will admit I do love the idea of the portability of pressed and the reduction in mess/possible spillage. And I totally agree that when it is done well, it looks so much less of a hassle than loose powders. Some of those gals do such a great job, too.

But for hygenic reasons and the shelf life of minerals, loose will always win for me. I have always had irritation issues that result with unfresh eyemakeup. That is just my experience, though. It started when I was 15 and can go into rashes that must be handled by a Derm. I had not worn much makeup for years until I discovered minerals.

I know when I travel, I put fresh cotton balls in the tops of my jars to reduce the amount of product that goes above the sifter. Tape over the holes also works (and you can fold it in such a way to have a tab to open it). Who knows, Faith.....you may invent the next great thing in travelling with minerals.

Yes, cotton balls is a great idea. Do the cotton balls get infused with a lot of powder or are they pretty much resistant?

Some of the powder does go into the cotton ball, but not much. They are much more dense than a puff. I wonder if a disc cut out of craft foam would work. Sometimes you can get that craft foam up to 4mm thick.

I would be very interested in one, and I'd much rather buy it from you than from Coastal Scents...

Personally, I am happy with loose make-up. It is more simple and basic and I love simplicity. Not so keen on the idea of having palettes. I like the little jars, to me it is more like the real thing, more like it is what is inside that counts, the real thing and not plastic with make-up. Besides I think the loose powder is easier to control as in coverage needed. Also easier to blend eyeshadows! For blushes you can use as little pigment as you want and then add some!
And it all looks more real to me this way. It is real powder, real color. But that's just me. I keep my little jars in an empty Ferrerro Rocher box, and I like that, it is simple and easy.

Shirin, I actually completely agree with you.

I wouldn't press my blushes, but I'd love to press a few of my basic & favorite eyeshadows, simply because on some mornings, when the night has been a bit rough and I have to get my 2 boys (they're 1 and 3 and they hardly sleep ) ready to go, I have to be extremely quick to do the whole face! I obviously can't skip concealer and foundation, and that's when loose eye shadow can be a bit tricky.

So if I could press a few, I'd have kind of a "go-to pressed look" ready to use and be able to do my eyes in 2 minutes...
When I'm in a hurry, and that happens a lot, I usually tend to go for liner + mascara only, or for a quick wash (Idolize or Long Weekend) and that's it, and it kind of frustrates me because I love doing my eyes!

But I'd have to buy an extra for each of my favorite shadows, because when I have enough time to get ready, I looove my loose shadows...

I understand Anne, never thought of the more quick part of it as i am new to eyeshadows but it explains why it takes me so long doing a simple one-wash.
I understand your frustration, you definitely have those eyes which can be greatly enhanced with make-up, beautiful eyes with a great canvas for make-up.

I just read your blog, very interesting, thank you! It does help.
Biosilk apparently isn't available in France, but as you say the ingredients are the same as in the Coastal Scents pressing medium, I might end up giving that a try...
I'll see what happens around here first of course
