Pressing SN eyeshadows

Has anyone tried to press the SN eyeshadows before? How did it work out? I'm thinkin about creating a palette with the shadows, and I like it pressed so it's less messy!

Actually- yes! I've been playing with some things, and I know that at least the shimmers press wonderfully. I haven't tried any of the matte ones yet. I used a pressing medium I made with dimethicone and cyclomethicone, and just pressed it into a cheap palette I bought at the dollar store. Blush works too. Should I release it? Getting the palettes, and pans in will take a little while- but the medium isn't an issue.

Release a pressing medium?! Uh *YES* please!! There is such a buzz around mineral forums just now for ladies to press minerals into their own palettes - I think it'd be a roaring success! With SN's formula containing silk, I don't know how well other mediums would work, so if you marketed one already proven successful, that'd be dreamy and give peace of mind we won't ruin our precious loot

I think making palettes speaks deeply to the little girl's magpie soul - it's just like playing mud-pies for grown ups, being creative, blending and mixing unique colours to show individuality and it involves glitter - what's not to love!!

Oh and while I'm awake - lots of people talk about the large palettes like Coastal Scents sell. Great for display but impractical for handbags. How about a large palette like those for home storage and a small three or four pan compact case which we could carry and change the colour pans in daily. A british company (Ariane Poole dot com) uses an eyeshadow pan like this. It'd be pricey, but we'd each only buy one (most likely).It's magnetised and there's a tiny space on the pan rim to stick a needle or pin into for leverage to remove the pan. (AP started out with interchangeable pans on concealers - same components and intended to do and interchangeable eyeshadow line too but lost her slot selling on a shopping channel and went solely web-based, and being very expensive, I guess didn't sell as much as the line didn't expand for another year or so until recently). Sorry for long post, just explaining background info for idea.

Should I release it?

By "it," do you mean the pressing medium or already pressed Silk Naturals colors? I vote "ehhh" to the pressing medium and "yes!" to the already pressed colors. I'm too lazy to press on my own -- sad but true. If you do release already pressed colors, I think your most most popular colors and/or existing kits would be great candidates. I could see pressed kits of the Elegant Brown Quad, Summer Lovin' Set, Stonewashed Nudes, and Shimmering Nudes being successful.

I've read on blogs and in forums that shimmers need binders (some sort of -cone) for best pressed consistency while mattes are best pressed with alcohol alone. I think my statement corroborates with Karen's experience in this forum thread since hand sanitizer is mostly alcohol without any -cones.

nuts4makeup: Yes! I've pressed some of my SN eyeshadows, using the Coastal Scents EZ-Prez pressing medium and their empty 15-pan eyeshadow palette. I've only pressed Sandy, Danny, Live, Love and Laugh, so far.

I do agree with extemter that pressing is a time-consuming process and it can get tedious very quickly. I pressed a bunch of eyeshadows when I first discovered pressing and was excited about the idea, but now the thought of pressing all the rest of my SN eyeshadows (and my other mineral eyeshadows, for that matter), makes me a little queasy.

Still, I would love to see a Silk Naturals pressing medium and would definitely buy (at least) one bottle.

I think that pressing the shadows would be crazy time consuming for you, although maybe LE palettes in the future might be great. =)

Also I like having the option of both pressed and loose versions of the same shadow. Please, please release your pressing medium! Coastal Scents charges crazy shipping prices. =(

Please, please, please release a pressing medium! I just tried pressing mine using rubbing alcohol and a mixture of rubbing alcohol with some glycerin. The results differ with different eyeshadows. Using alcohol alone killed doesn't bind the shimmery eyeshadows well and killed the quality of the matte shades. The alcohol + glycerin was better but I think some of the shades have taken on a reddish hue. 0_0

My mind boggles.

Oh, I actually pressed *all* my shadows, blushes and glows I bought from SN, and I love the results. It takes a bit of trial and error, so start with the stuff you don't care about much (I experimented on other mineral makeup I got as samples). Yes, it can be messy and take a long time, but for me it wasn't tedious. Before my xmas trip, I wanted to get them all done, and stayed up all night till 7am only on natural high (gotta finish, gotta finish!) and had tons of fun. I used the big coastal scents palettes, and filled up 5 of them. Gotta get more, as I still have some shadows and blushes on my wishlist. I do have some old mac 4 palettes, so I use that for the handbag.

Note, the CS palettes are not magnetized, so it involves a bit of craftiness to make them so. Youtube is invaluable for that. I bought a ton of business card size magnets from ebay and a whole lot of ELF quad holder from Target and used that as metal for the magnet. If you, Karen, found magnited palettes, please do share! As for the mixing medium I used DIY cosmetics dilted by half. I do support the idea of having it all at the same place though, so when you get a chance Karen, it would be a welcome addition.

BTW, you don't need the whole jar-worth of powder to fill up the little pot, so you can give the tiny amount left to your gf and have them hooked on SN, mwahahha (evil laugh).

Oh, wow, my heart is beating so hard, I'm soooo excited. I would so love the e/s in pallettes. The only thing that keeps me from always using my fav SN colors is the spill factor, and if they were pressed, I'd have no excuse!
