Dresden file are on the next on my list. Vivify could you please tell em the 1st book in the series

I just finished reading Charlaine harris From dead to worse. Not the best in the sookie stackhouse series. More of rounding up book. Can't wait till next year for book 9. At the mo I'm waiting for Sherrilyn Kenyon's Acheron books. Yes two whole books devoted to the man himself. Until then I have to catch up with Upon the midnight clear and Dram Chaser. I also have MaryJanice Davidson Undead & Unworthy out the 1st July yay and Kelley Armstrongs The summoning (dark powers 1 - part of the women of the other world series). None of you have a clue what I'm on about LOL.

Please do not be fooled by the supernatural/horror genre. A lot of my books are romances with a supernatural twist, or crime mystery, with a supernatural setting.

Well for those of you who don't read my kind of book (mikie, lol) but are thinking of diving into the world of Vampire, werewolves and zombie her are the authors and their books you should try first:
MaryJanice Davidson - Besty the Vampire Queen Series. If you like Bidget Jones humour and Sex in the city Carrie’s shoe fetish (Besty likes Manolo Blahnik’s & Jimmy Choo) then this is the series for you. The first in the series is Undead and Unwed. This had me laugh out loud on the bus and everyone staring at me funny – you know what I’m on about krenee. Can I just say Eric Sinclair - Yum.

Charlaine Harries - Sookie Stackhouse Series. This series is set in the small town of Bon Temp (made up) in Louisiana and vampires are public knowledge. It has a great sense of humour and if you like crime mysteries this one is for you. The books usually have a main plot and sub plot(s) not confusing!!! The first int he series is “Dead until Dark”. Even after book 8, I’m still trying to decide who I want Sookie to end up with Eric (different one from MJD) or Bill. Quinn was never in the picture.

Kelley Armstrong - Women of the other world Series. This series is mainly Werewolves in the beginning books but then branches out to Witches, sorcerers, half Demon, necromancers etc. The first book is called Bitten. Its first person narrative of Elena Michaels and the pack but with Elena being the only female werewolf in existence. This is a great mystery novel as well and Clayton Denvers is the best book character I have ever read. (Mikie: Kelley Armstrong also has a new crime series. The first (and only at the mo) is called Exit Strategy. Haven't read it, but my mum who isn't into crime novel loves it.

Sherrilyn Kenyons – Dark Hunter series. This series is not your typical supernatural series. Its a take on the ancient Greeks version of vampires in modern times with the greek gods mythology. The series is set in modern New Orleans and is about Vampire (daimons) and the vampire slayer (dark Hunters). The scope of the series is big, from the streets of New Orleans to the temples (the homes of the greek gods) on Mt Olympus. Now the first book in the series is debatable depending on the fan. The first book I read is Fantasy Lover which introduces you into the world of the dark hunter but not necessary a dark hunter book. The first Dark hunter book is “Night Pleasures” (nice titles huh), I recommend reading Fantasy Lover first. Each book has a hero and a heroine that advert a disaster. The books also have the funniest, colourful characters you will every read. Take for instance the Simi, (that’s what she calls herself “The Simi”). She’s a 11,000 year old demon who act like a 8 year with a fetish for sparklies (jewellery ) and shopping on QVC. She is looked after Acheron who is the leader of the dark hunter and is 7ft 8” - Nice. You also have the Atlantis legend mixed in the later books. By the way the motto of the Dark Hunters is “Mad, Bad & Immortal” what more can I say.

Finally for you Anne Rice Fans - Laurell K Hamilton – Anita Blake Series. It has action, love, betrayal and zombie’s. Anita is a necromancer and the vampire hunter. Vampires are pubic knowledge and if they step out of line, Anita is there to put the in their place. This is a great series and the first book is “Guilty Pleasures” (gotta love these titles). The title is taken from the strip club name in the book what more can I say lol

These are my can't live without, life on stand stil fav's
Told you guys I could go on forever.
Enjoy

The first book is called Storm Front. It's based upon a wizard in modern day Chicago. He's a private investigator and solves supernatural crimes. Hope you like it.

Ghost - I finished "The Time Traveler's Wife" - it's a very good book; in a lot of ways I found it very sad. But I enjoyed the story. It kind of takes you back and forth so it's hard to figure out what's going to happen next, but it did come pretty "full circle" eventually. I didn't cry but there were a couple spots where I cried in the last Harry Potter book so sometimes sad books do make me cry - I think it depends a lot on what kind of mood I'm in while I'm reading.

Right now I am reading "Say When" by Elizabeth Berg. (got the suggestion for Elizabeth Berg here) I like the story - although I really hate the wife character in the story - Ellen. All her little quirks and the things she does and says drive me nuts. But maybe this is the point - that I'm not "supposed" to like her?! Ha ha ha. I am going to Target today and almost sure I'll pick up "Fearless Fourteen" - the new Janet Evanovitch, unless I have an unusual amount of restraint while I'm there (not likely). I usually don't buy hardcover books but hers are one of the few I can't resist. It takes forever to get the new ones from the library (waiting list) and I am usually just not willing to wait, and I do enjoy them immensely, so I figure I get my money's worth out of buying them - LOL. So - for the last few years now I've bought the new ones in hardcover when they come out.

I am a pseudointellectual with a penchant for reading about food, science, and society. Except I generally can't stand those dry, rambling, poorly-written scraps of paper that pass for non-fiction books. I tend to prefer my non-fiction with a good portion of memoir or personal essay mixed in.

Current favorite authors:
Sven Birkerts
Barbara Kingsolver
Michael Pollan
Jon Krakauer

Hi Krenee

The time travellers wife is so good. I usually don't cry at anything, but when I read that book *sighs* WOW loved it. Yes it does come "full circle", but I did get confused in some places and I'm thinking of re-reading it. Glad you enjoyed it

I'm half way through Dream chaser by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Gots some funny looks today again from people on the bus  I had to cover my mouth to stop from laughing out loud. LOL

Next on my reading list is going to be Kresley Cole, A hunger like no other (seriously, where do they get their titles lol). It has vampire, werewolves and valkyie, what more could a girl ask for.

Countdown to the next installment of the dark hunter series - Acheron: 6 weeks and 3 days. Really what is eternity!!!

Ghost-
I heard the Time Traveler's Wife is going to be out as a movie soon. That will be interesting to see what they do with it. I am not sure who's playing Henry, but Rachel McAdams is Clare (I remember her mostly from "The Notebook" although she's been in a lot of other movies too I think.)
I haven't gotten "Fearless Fourteen" yet but I need to. I have another Elizabeth Berg book that I just got at the library on Tuesday night and I'm almost done with it already. I really like this one a lot. It's about a lady who is a nurse (although that isn't entirely the focus of the story but part of it) and I am a nurse too so there are a lot of things I find really "moving" about this book. It made me cry this morning, and I'm not even at the end, yet.
OK, so how scary is the "Dark Hunter" series? You've got me interested in it now. I will tell you - I resolutely avoid anything scary. As in I never ready scary books or go to horror movies. Even movies that are too suspenseful and emotional (like "Cold Mountain") absolutely kill me. I never should have watched that movie as it was way too sad and depressing for me and I was melancholy for like 2 weeks after that (I wish I was kidding - but I am not!) I take everything very literally and I am super sensitive, I guess. You have me interested in Sherrilyn Kenyon now but if it's scary or upsetting I won't like it. What is the first book in the series? But let me know if you don't think these are for me okay?!

What is the title of the Elizabeth Berg book that you were referring to in your post? I sounds like something I might like also.

Hi Krenee

Glad I got someone interested - my mission is complete!!!

These books are not Stephen King's. Its hard to know if you'll like these books. I would say these books are as scary as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Your find that the main characters of each book would have been through turmoil, but each book has a happy ending.

As stated on the cover on the UK versions, it's Buffy meets sex and the city. Humour with supernatural romance. Generally each book revoles around two characters (hero & herione) and how they end up together. There are action fight scenes, a little like lord of the rings fights, but not as big in scale - fists and swords flying. In the 3rd book a helicopter blows up and there is always a mystery added for extra measure. Then you have gods from ancient worlds woved in. At the moment I've read about the gods from Atlantis, Greek gods from Olympus, celtic gods, and sumerian gods (not a clue who they are).

As you go more into the books you will have characters from previous books showing up from time to time. Simi (one of my favs shows) up in the 3rd book. Of course no good romance book should be without the dot, dot, dot scenes :D The first book is called Fantasy Lover, here is a link to an excerpt of it http://www.dailyinquisitor.com//hunter/fantasylover.htm You can read excerpt from any of her books on her website. http://www.dailyinquisitor.com//sherrilyn/

This book only introduces you to the world of the Dark Hunters. Its the next one which is Night pleasures (please don't judge the book by it's title) that the ball starts rolling.

The order of the books are as follows:
Fantasy Lover, Night Pleasure, Night Embrace, Dance with the Devil, Kiss of the Night, Night Play Seize the Night, Sins of the Night, Unleash the Night, Dark side of the Moon, Fear the Darkness (this is a e-book free form the website), the dream Hunter, Devil may Cry (nothing to do with the game), Upon the midnight Clear, Dream chaser. There are short stories in anthology books as well.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is an internationally best seller. Her books are sold in 10 different countries (that I know of). Trust me you will find her books in any library.

Please don't read these book if you don't want to. I suggest that you read the excerpts and decide for yourself.

Hi Ghost -

Thanks for the info. I will read the excerpts! :) I am sure I've never heard of these books before now just because they're not my usual "style" of reading. I forgot to say in my earlier discussion that for whatever reason, I liked the TV show "Charmed" quite a bit (I am not sure if you've heard of that? 3 sisters who are witches.) There were some scary creatures/demons who would pop up in that although it wasn't really what most people would classify as "scary" I am sure. I liked it mostly because of the characters and storyline - Julian McMahon was in it and I like him so I sort of quit watching after they killed off his character although a friend of mine tells me that he came back at the end anyway. The series is over and so I could catch up with it on DVD if I really wanted to, just haven't done it yet. I am wondering if these books are in a way similar to that - I think the "Buffy" reference made me think of it. But funny is always something I am up for so I'll check them out for that reason too! Oh, and I guess I should say too that I don't find Harry Potter scary or upsetting at all - the whole of the story is "sad" in a lot of ways but I still like it a lot.
Thanks for listing out the books in the series for me! I hate going to the library and trying to pick up a book in a series and figure out what is the first one! Might as well begin at the beginning, right?!
thanks again,
Karmen
