Wow!!! That sounds fabulous- I'm guessing she'll do a wonderful job- some people are just *good* with hair, and it sounds like you found her! And if they give you the same deal they did before that's fantastic. Around here (out in the sticks) it would be a $200 color job to do full color plus highlights- it sounds like so much fun!!

Laurie, you're my new hero. Pictures! Pictures!! I wish I could convince myself to do something like that. I've been with the same stylist for 11 years. She does a good job, always squeezes me in, but I just feel the need for something different. I've been growing my hair out for my son's wedding in April. After sporting variations of short (spiky, curly, soft, wavy - but always SHORT!) for almost 30 years (military life encourages "quick and easy"), I've grown it out to just past the collar bone. Long enough to pull back or put up, but still with a gazillion layers and requiring lots of hairspray so I don't look like I put my finger in the light socket. The need to stay with what I'm comfortable-but-bored with is overwhelming my desire to modernize. Heck, ladies, since I started using SN, I hadn't worn makeup in years! Now I've got an extension of Karen's warehouse in my bathroom and I use it daily. Has anyone else taken that great leap of faith to make a major change? How did you psych yourself up for it? I'm so afraid of a disaster just before his wedding. You'd think I was the bride or something!!!! C'mon girls, I need words of inspiration!!

I think for me is that #1-free-hold a lot of weight in my decisions, also that hair is hair, it grows. I also don't care a whole lot what people think, I mean I have tattoos and stuff, and also I live just 20 minutes from Los Angeles.

Now, now, you mean good weird? :p I live in downtown LA, and yes, I've seen my share of unusual/different, but somehow I like to think I'm part of it. Regardless of LA's bad rep of phony and superficial, most of us are 'normal' people, and it's refreshing to find another one of that example on my fav forum :) Rock that hair, whatever it may look like! And yes, being through many of hair disasters, they do grow back, whew!

Just so we can chop it off again, haha!

Free is definitely good - I could be paying $200 for the cut + color I get, but a friend of mine is a hairdresser and charges waaaay less than that (i do tip her about the same as she charges, but it's still a good deal considering I only see her every 2 mos).

I am also one of the lucky ones with a close friend who is a hair stylist/salon owner. She charges me about half. I do try to fill in her open slots, though.

Hi, I'm back!
been a busy couple of days. Well Elizabeth and her cronies did a FAB-U-LOUS job again. It's a deep auburn with all sorts of caramel and strawberry blond sort of woven through so it looks (almost) like I was born with it! best thing is, since they know I really cannot afford the upkeep, there is another color class scheduled in 2 months, and they'll have me back, and do something a little different! This month is really shaping up to be pretty darn excellent!

Good gracious, that colour is soooo very beautiful. I'm not quite sure how to phrase this exactly, but it's slightly obvious that it's not a "born with it" as there are different colours, but I've quite honestly *never* seen colour applied in such a skillful way as to make me stop and wonder... "IS that natural... um, CAN a person be born with glorious rich colour tones like that?". I mean, it's so very well done that it'd make me wonder because it's so natural looking and yet, artificial dyes don't normally look that complex or that good (if they do use multiple colours, it usually sticks out like a sore thumb). Really quite stunning, and the way the tones match your own colouring, eyes etc - that's my pet hate when tones don't match and to see your pic gives me real hope in colourists!

Forgive the ineloquence, I'm tongue tied from tiredness, but that really is a colour job done so well that it'd be hard to believe you weren't just born with the luckiest hair colour ever.

It is gorgeous! You look very refreshed and ready for anything. That is too cool that you get to go back in a few months for another new look. :D
