Ack-got a quick question! HELP ME!!!
I am going to be a hair model at a local salon tomorrow. I answered a Craigslist ad looking for someone who wanted a free *bob* haircut. Cash is really tight for us, and I am in dire need of a new look, so I signed up. I know they are going to cut my now a couple-of-inches-below-my-shoulders-length hair somewhere between my chin and my shoulders, and I am ok with that, but I am also not sure what kind of imput I'll have, since I'll be used in a demonstration in how to cut a bob. I prefer a slightly more *edgy* look, but I haven't been able to find a pic of what I am looking for. It may not matter anyway. My question, though.....since I am getting a wash, deep condition, cut, and style for free; do I, or should I, tip; and if so...how much? My appointment is first thing tomorrow morning!

Sounds like fun! How many models are there? Is it at a salon or at a school? When my SIL went to the Aveda academy they worked on people all day long, and lived on the tips- and it was pretty much whatever people felt like tipping. I believe $10-20 was the norm- but more always made their day. If it's at a salon go with your instincts when you get there.

Sounds like fun, please post pics of your new look.
Re: Ack-got a quick question! HELP ME!!!
i remember reading somewhere that tipping at a hair salon is similar to tipping a server in a restaurant--15-20%. since yours will be free, i would just tip 15-20% of what you would normally pay for the service that you will get. $10-20 sounds about right to me--since a deep condition and style are included, maybe lean more toward the higher end.
i hope i'm not leading you astray, but ever since i read it somewhere, that's what i've done!

Laurie, Love the new look, it is amazing how new "do's" and occasional change of color really do make a difference. Hope the 1st day styling trauma wasn't to bad, looks like it should have been pretty easy. Sounds like you had a really good time, and what a great no to low cost treat for yourself.

Re: Ack-got a quick question! HELP ME!!!
Hi, I'm back with an update!
Well it's two weeks later, and I am just LOVING my new do.......totally easy and flattering and seriously takes me like, 5 minutes in the morning. I did give the stylist, Elizabeth, a $20.00 tip which she did seem grateful(and surprised!) for.
I also wrote her a nice little thank you card a few days later.
Fast forward to last night. Elizabeth calls me and says she needs a model for next Wednesday for a new line of color(haircolor) they are introducing, and am I interested????
HECK-YAH!!!!
She says it will probably be very "dimentional", which I am taking to mean highlights and lowlights and some peek-a-bow and kind of trendy, and I am not even sure what color it will be, but that's ok....I trust her, and I know she will listen to my imput. I did ask her if it was going to be purple, and she laughed and said no.
I'm kind of hoping it will be sort of red with blond, sort of how Lindsay Lohan had hers in *Freaky Friday". YKWIM?
But I'm open. I am sooo jazzed!
