Starting on a professional make up certification course
Re: Starting on a professional make up certification course
you can do it!!
Re: Starting on a professional make up certification course
Awesome attitude, that's why you're going to ace this! I believe there is no point half-assing (excuse me) something this important that's going to be part of your life. I don't think there is a reason to ever half-ass anything, either do it or don't. You sound like you take pride in what you do, and your perfectionism will be highly rewardedpinkpomelo wrote: I don't just want to pass, I want to pass with flying colours.

All the best, Faith!! Go for it!!

You're going to blow them away! I know how hard you've been working, and how much you're into the process- and you're going to pass with flying colors!!! Good luck!

Re: Starting on a professional make up certification course
Thank you so much for all your encouragement! I sure as heck didn't "half-ass" it, Egrerandi!
I passed and one of the examiners commented that he gave me high points for being daring and creative with the hair do. Everyone else went with the usual french twist, or the chignon, or the messy half chignon and curls, but I tied my model's hair into braids and just pinned it here, there, and fashioned the stray bits into soft "spikes". But I didn't have time to finish. Really, 1.5hrs is still too short for me. Esp if I have to pluck eyebrows. And my model arrived late. And I lost points for not having enough time to straighten her fringe and gel it down to a smooth side parting. She came with product in her hair and I had a hard time combing it out. On hindsight, I should have just sprayed it with water and smoothed it all out with loads of gel and clay.
I also lost points for using a fan brush to put on blush because an examiner felt that fan brushes lacked control and precision. And I lost more points for picking the wrong foundation shade. Its a very newbie mistake and I have no excuse for it, except that I panicked and made the wrong call. A stupid stupid newb mistake of picking a foundation 2 shades too light.
But I got high points for foundation blending and coverage as well as the eye make up.
300hours and 8 official makeover sessions and a few other unofficial friends-turned-models-for-impromptu-makeover sessions later, I'm a certified make up artist.
PHEW!!!!

Re: Starting on a professional make up certification course
Thanks, gals!!
Yesterday, I received a real ego boost when I went back to class to be someone else's model for their CIBTAC certification course when one of my examiners asked if I would accept bridal work? Her agency charges SGD1000 for hair and make up and she thinks I'm good enough to handle it! Waaaaay awesome confidence booster! Esp since I was a tad upset with myself after the exams.
Meanwhile, I'm gearing up for my friend's wedding this Sunday. I'm doing face for her mom, matron of honor and sister. And a bunch of other girls who just wanted to jump on the makeover bandwagon-- haha. I'm going to use BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and PIXIE!!!!!! The girls are all fair, chinese. And Breathe and Pixie really look amazing on them during the test run.
I love those colors! Such wonderful, bright, cheery colors for the day. And of course, Precious!
