Minty Minty Kisser Slickers?

Post by pinkpomelo » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:05 pm

I am so torn! On the one hand, I am utterly in love with and cannot do without the Kisser Slickers. The texture, the pigmentation, the uber moisturing ingredients... but some of them have a waxy scent and taste to them. :(

On the other hand, I really love the sweet minty minty taste and scent of Bigelow's Lip Balms. But they have little staying power and their pigmentation is nothing to rave about.

Is there any any any possible way to have the best of both worlds? The closest I've come to are the Black Label Lippies. Even then, they don't have the OOMPH! of Bigelow's Lip Balms.

It looks like Karen's been playing with flavored lippies with the latest GWPs of Peace (vanilla mint), Happiness (strawberry), and Joy (peach). She did release a chocolate-flavored Foreplay for Valentine's Day, so maybe she'll do another special run of flavored lippies?

Are Burt's Bees lip shimmers or Alba TerraTints available in Singapore? Before Karen's lippies appeared on the market, I collected Burt's Bees lip shimmers and have also tried TerraTints. If you have any questions about them or want reviews of the colors, please feel free to PM (private message) me!

Unfortunately, those lippies aren't available in Singapore. sad. However, I do have a friend going to the States in Jan, and I could get him to bring me back a whole sack of them :D

Peppermint oil irritates my lips - and I know I'm not the only one. Karen, please be careful if you offer mint or cinnamon flavored stuff to also offer unflavored or other flavors of the same shades - mint and cinnamon are common allergens that cause contact/perioral dermatitis. thanks!

I LOVE the flavor of the lippies! As someone else mentioned mint irritates me.

I wonder if whoever decided to flavour makeup like food did so to trick us into licking lips, needing to reapply more often and therefor have to buy more of their product more quickly.

Cynical me, I presumed for mainstream (read non mineral MU) products it was to conceal the scent of the chemicals they used!

I am in agreement with kitten. I do think the flavor is sometimes used to cover something. I have a few from other brands that I love the color, but not the fake tasting flavor. I wear them only occasionally as a result.

As far as the waxy taste goes, we need to remember that these are naturally based lip products that contain many fewer ingredients than mainstream products. There will be some essence of those natural ingredients in the taste. Flavorings are very hit and miss, and I would really prefer not to have extra ingredients added to cover the taste. I guess I have been a lip balm girl all my life, so the wax does not bother me, and I generally don't lick my lips anyway.

I will admit that my favorite GWP over the holidays was the mint scented Peace in a pod (I had requested a mint flavored coolish light pink for the GWP). I guard that with my life! Maybe we can ask Karen to add in a few more LE flavored colors here and there. For Valentine 2008 we had a chocolate strawberry version of Foreplay. I think it was limited to 100 sticks.

I think every lippie needs at least a little flavor...that's why we do the vanilla- it's just better smelling/tasting than straight castor oil. The problem I have with most scents- with the exception of a very few, is that a lot of the ones formulated to go into lippies tend to be somewhat alcohol based- so if you put them on chapped skin it burns, and I feel that they're drying. Some of the scents I've ordered/seen on sites are yummy- but I always feel like I need all of the moisture I can get. I keep looking and hoping that someone will come out with my dream lippie flavors- I see that one other supplier has some fun ones. I'll grab a bottle or 2 in my next order to see if they're any better.

ohhh man, I know this is super-specialized and may not happen, but banana and/or coconut would be amazing.
