We're buying a house!!!!

Post by karen » Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:31 pm

I just got an email from the realtor, and they accepted the offer we put on a little house!!! It's our first...we've always rented, so I'm cautiously very excited (it's not a done-deal yet). It's cute- about the same size as the shop (the shop is big, the house is small- in relative terms), we'll be saving money vs renting, and it will be ours!

I'm just so excited- I had to share.

Oh, congratulations Karen! I know how exciting it is, my hubby and I just bought our first house about 3 months ago. Before that we always rented, too. At first we had problems closing but then it all turned out all right and we're so happy! And yes, it's a big savings comparing to rent. I'm happy for you! Hope everything goes well and smooth!

Ah fantastic news Karen - I hope you'll both be very happy in your new home. There's no feeling like it the first time you go inside, lock the front door behind you and slither down it to sit in the hallway floor, stunned, overwhelmed, knowing that it's all your own. It's beyond elation and excitement - even if it's a mess of a thousand packing boxes all around, you'll be glowing with joy the moment it all gets real!

Congratulations!

Start stretching your wrist, you’ll need it for al the paper work you will be signing. ;)

Oh yes! I couldn't believe all the papers that needed to be signed! We sat there for probably an hour, lol.

Wooohooooo! So happy for you!

I also agree with mgmsrk. Do some wrist and finger stretching over the next few weeks.

All I really remember about buying my first house was the shock of writing the check for the downpayment.

How very exciting, Karen!! Congratulations and I hope you'll have many happy years in your new house! It will be 10 yrs. this summer that we've been in ours and it's a great feeeling knowing that you are no longer throwing rent checks in someone else's pocket. The stack of papers at closing is HUGE, and don't do what I did, which was to almost forget the bank checks. I made it to the bank w/about 10 mins to spare-phew!

Thanks! Yes..I think the old wrist is going to get a big workout. I'll try to keep track of how many times I have to sign- tomorrow we have to start the paperwork- and that's at least 4 signatures, plus a check. I get the hint that they're just warming up- but hopefully it will be cool when it's over.

Thanks for the vote of confidence- I'm having fun daydreaming about colors. It was a rental- so everything is white- a nice blank canvas! I've never actually taken the effort to decorate a house...because we've rented I never wanted to spend the money making things "too nice". I can't wait to get a new sofa.
