Lip eraser

Post by egerandi » Wed Jan 21, 2009 12:35 am

I'm desperate! I keep buying these gorgeous lippies just to find that they don't look anything like what I imagined/read about/saw on others. I know that it all depends on our own lip colors, but I'm cursed (yes, that's what it feels like) with really dark lips, which is kinda strange because I have fair skin. Like I just got Sweet Nothing, and applied even with the lightest hand, it looks almost like Vintage on me (minus the shine). Damsel is dark too, and I could go on. Now, this doesn't mean that I don't love the way they look and feel, I was just hoping for something lighter.

Hang on, my rambling actually has a point: I need a lip 'eraser', a base that would neutralize my dark lips, but in the meantime provide a nice base (ie not drying like regular concealer would). I even tried UDPP topped with a bit of Blur and put Sweet Nothing on top. It was nice, but not much lighter. I think Karen already said that the eye base she made wouldn't work for this either, so I'm hoping she can make the real deal happen. If it's a biggie and not much of a demand, I'll buy the Mac, I was just hoping to get something that's actually good for my lips (perhaps less drying than the Mac Lip Erase one).

Thanks!

Yeah! A few companies have these. I haven't tried them, but I'd be excited to if SN made one. They probably are hard to formulate, but that's a great idea.

i know it's being discontinued but have you tried sparkle? It really helps lighten my lips

and what does divine look like on you? It's pretty opaque so it can make a nice neutral base.

I layered the two to wash out my lips for the nars turkish delight request

I'm a bit wary of Divine as I tried Swept away before hoping for a nice nude, but it really didn't suit me. My boyfriend told me it looked like a grandma lipstick :(

If here is no plans for the lip eraser, I shall try Sparkle. Isn't it too sparkly to use under sheers? My goal is to bring out the true color of the lippie on my base, not to tune down the color of the lippie. I think that's different, but I could be wrong :)

Divine is really brown. I think it would compete with some of the brighter lip glosses. I'm not certain that it would make a good base - but Sparkle, yeah, that's a good idea!

Alright, I'll be on the lookout for the new freebie (just got Mogul and love it), then get Sparkle. Still hoping for a proper eraser as well, if Karen is so inclined :)

I'll work on something- but I can't promise any miracles with it. I do think Divine or the new color that we're coming out with would probably work well for your purposes- probably Divine would be my top pick for you. I did try the one that a certain supplier had, but it was yuck- so smelly from perfume that I just couldn't leave it on my lips. Generally they're silicone based (they kind of need to be because silicone and oil don't mix- and that's kind of what you need)- and they're just kind of out of my area of expertise- I'm better with just regular old waxes and oils.

Swept away is really much pinker than divine. It's definitely a color on my lips rather than a washout like divine.

It does have shimmer but it's really small particle and it's suspended in a white base. It's really NOT heaps of shimmer, if you layer it under something people will not say "oooooo shimmery!". I'm not sure how much it will tone down whatever you put on top of it but it should lighten your lip color quite a bit.

For reference, my lips are a medium dusty rose color. If i use a lip plumper, they are dark dark dark. One of the reasons I don't post on-lips swatches of lippies is it can be hard to tell the difference for a lot of them. It sounds like Karen might be releasing another nude lippie soon. Good luck in your search.

If you're looking for quickfixes:

e.l.f. has a lip primer with not-so-natural ingredients $3
origins has a more organic lip primer $14.50
Zosimos has organic liquid face primers and balm concealer sticks that might work (samples $2)

I layer silknatural's lippies if i need to tone down my own lip color so can't really comment on the above for use as a primer

Thanks for the tips! I looked at Origins, but it seemed like a mere base, not to tone down the color and at $14 I don't want to take chances. I just ordered two samples from Zosimos, wasn't sure which color would work best. I'll wait for Karen to come out with the new nude and will get that (or Divine) and Sparkle.
