new user to silk naturals with a concealer question

Post by boadicea23 » Sun Nov 09, 2008 7:22 pm

hi!

I've been having fun playing with my foundation. I got the sample with all the colors even though I was fairly certain I would be just a touch of ebony (and with lots of reading on the forum this weekend, I did find my match. . although I think when I re-order I'd go for a heavier coverage than the original) In other MMU, like EDM I was somewhere between a Cool Fair and a Fair Neutral depending on the time of year. In the mass market MMU (such as BE or drugstore lines like Maybelline), there aren't one light enough for me, so I'm thrilled with the opportunity to play to get it right.
Here's my dilemma: concealer. My dark eye circles are severe. I tried a sample of the original Sleep in a Jar which was too yellow and didn't do a heck of a lot. So I added a little of the peach sample and some ivory to play with it and it's better. However, I was curious if anyone had any suggestions. I'm tempted by the peach concealer, but given the levels of my circles. . I'm not sure which one I'd want.

Thanks!
Amber

These are my dark circles in which it's quite the science experiment to get them to match the rest of my face.

I think concealers are tricky for everyone, but I see your dilemma. I really recommend the Light Peach or Extra Light Peach. These will not be as heavy as the Heavy Coverage Foundation. Some gals also blend a concealer with the Heavy Coverage Foundation. It would be close to make one with the peach base and Heavy Coverage Ivory, but it would not quite be as peachy pink. For you, I would also recommend a lotion or cream concealer under the powder one. Karen is still working on a cream version, but there are some on the market that are not as natural, ingredienwise, as her goal product will be. Can I ask what you have tried in the past?

Hi!
Coverage is also better for me if I mix my undereye concealer with lotion -- I use the heavy coverage foundation mixed with some peach and yellow base. It's easier to blend without looking chalky. It took a little bit of experimentation to find the right combo for my particular situation. My routine is typically:

- Moisturizer
- Eyecream mixed with undereye mix
- MMU foundation, applied either dry or wet with flat top buffer
- And then I top the foundation with another layer of the undereye mix, dry with a fluffy brush.
- Finishing powder.
- Spritz with a finishing spray.

That usually does it for the really bad days. The first layer is important to cover up the discoloration and right the tones. The last dry layer helps brighten. All that MMU around the eyes can look a little powdery if you're not careful, though. So, the spray helps a lot in making everything meld!

HTH!

oh gosh. . what haven't I tried?? Pretty much every drugstore concealer on the market and powders and MAC Studio Fix, Bobbi Brown. You name it, I've tried it! :) Most recently (about the last year) I've been using NYX concealer in a jar and then EDM concealer in Intensive Fair over that. However, I am eternally seeking the holy grail of a concealer combo so that it's not grey underneath my eyes. :) I want perfection. :D

Thanks for your input!

I would try the NYX cream concealer with Light Peach or Extra Light Peach over the top. It will definitely not look gray. I am currently using a Loreal cream concealer (that is now d/c'd  )under my Light Peach. It does not completely obliterate the dark circles, but it definitely helps them blend in quite a bit better. Before I used SN Light Peach, I used a similar powder concealer on my under eyes. I found the ones from Everyday Minerals to be a bit drying. I hope you find something that works for you. It is definitely one of those situations where you have to 'Kiss a bunch of frogs to find the prince.'

You are so sweet for being so attentive. I apologize if my untouched circles pic scared anyone.

I don’t have anything helpful to add, I just wanted to say that I really like your user name. She’s one of my favorite historical women.
