I Snuck Away
I Snuck Away
Hi,
I'm in NYC for the next few days...MIL spent a week in Chicago visiting a friend, and we met her here to take in the city for a few days before she flies out of Newark on Tuesday. It was supposed to be her and DH, but I couldn't just leave the 2 of them up to their own devices in the big city. Sure they can manage, but sometimes 3 heads are better than 2.
We went to the Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Opera for her birthday, and now we're just kind of hanging out. I'm thinking a visit to girl mecca Henri Bendel's is in order. Because there's a MAC counter practically everywhere in this city, I did grab a few things from the Cult of Cherry Collection, as well as the copper Origins gloss that Zeebs requested, but while I'm here is there anything I should look for to include in the Fall line?
Also is there anything in the city that we shouldn't miss?
Have lots of fun- I'm checking emails, and the girls are shipping- I'll be back on Wednesday!

Oh, Karen, sounds like a BALL!!! Say hi to NY for me
. Have been antsy to get back there lately!
It's raining cats & dogs here & HAS been for days, sigh. Michael & his brothers *started* our new roof WEEKS ago ~ & NOTHING's been touched on the front half of the house yet. There's *stuff* ALL OVER, it's dreary, BUT I have been playing in my new loot so it's all good *anyway*!
ENJOY your time away!

Re: I Snuck Away
Enjoy your trip, I grew up in NY and miss it terribly, just not the crowds or the enormous rents. My favorite museums in NY are the Natural History, Guggenheim (mostly for the architecture of the building and possibly not spelled correctly in this post) and the Museum of the American Indian(in a fabulous old building). If you go to the American Indian museum you have to get steak sandwich from the vender on the left side street of the building if you are facing the main entrance. If the weather is somewhat clear a trip up the Empire State building is worth it. On the cheep there is something to be said for the stately beauty of Grand Central Station, the Manhattan skyline from the SI ferry (free), The sky tram to Roosevelt Island, Trinity Church (Broadway and wall st’s), St. Patrick’s Cathedral(5th and 50th, and across from Rockefeller Center), Grants Tomb(122 and Riverside), the 42nd St Library is a great building,
Before you go please eat some pizza (imo the best will be found in Brooklyn or Staten Island), fried plantains (any of the shops near Canal should work), Vietnamese food(from China Town), a hot soft pretzel and a great big sub from a Jewish deli. You understand I can’t be held responsible for any weight gain that may result from following this advice.
Gee it seems that what I miss most is the food!

Maryah, you've managed to make me feel homesick (& hungry,LOL!) without ever having lived there!!!
My cousin (Gerri) & I usually manage to get to NY at least once a year & I can't wait to do it again! Last yr or the yr before, we had no particular plans (usually it's a show or something) & we decided to walk to Central Park. The bus always drops us at Macy's (YAY~Sephora!!!). At any rate, it was a glorious October day (Columbus Day weekend, I think???) & we ran into a huge flea market near Central Park. It was WONDERFUL!!! Afterwards, we ate at Jekyl & Hyde's (overrated, I say) & started the loooooong (16 blocks, was it???) walk back to Macy's. Fun day!
Oh! A funny about NY ~ I swear it's true, hehe ~ we were ready to cross a street & a horse was coming around a corner ~ I stepped off the curb at the wrong time & got the dirtiest look from that horse! He snorted at me, ROFL! My cousin & I found it hysterical that that horse was *definitely* telling me off! Will never live it down,LOL!
Thanks for bringing back fun memories!

Mikie, That is a funny story about the horse, as you learned ALL New Yorkers have an attitude! Ha, Ha!

That's really funny about the horse- crows do the same thing they can even stalk you for days if they have a particular issue with you.
Thank you so much for the tour guide info. I've been to NYC quite a few times, but never as the "tour guide"- always the one needing to be shown around by the locals, so this is a real first for me. I think we've hit most of the high points! I really want to check out the Guggenheim- hopefully we'll make it there tomorrow, but it may just be that we go to Central Park and mosey around. I have to return that lipstick I bought at Sak's- $55.00 and my lips still burn. It's not meant to be a plumping lipstick, but there's something in there that just HURT.
You're absolutely right though- a trip to NYC isn't the same without eating pretty much everything in site. We just got back from dinner at a Tibetan restaurant- it was superb, and CHEAP by NYC standards. After a month in America MIL can't button her pants, but she'll survive. Hopefully tomorrow we'll hit Ben's Deli in the garment district- I've never been to the really famous ones like Katz's or the Carnegie- but I've always loved Ben's- it sounds weird, but I love the pickles that they serve, and the matzoh ball soup is to die for. Hopefully they won't be closed for Rosh Hashanah.

YAY COPPER ORIGINS GLOSS CLONE JUST FOR ME!! Thanks Karen! Have fun in NYC!
Re: I Snuck Away
It is just for you...but it won't be for long. I suspect that if I can get the color just right that it's going to be a real crowd favorite. I'm on a real copper kick at the moment- and that color is fantastically gorgeous! I always thought I was too cool toned to wear copper, but I like it a lot!

Re: I Snuck Away
Copper glints go with your hair, Karen! Before I was so silver, lol, my glints were all coppery, too.
No matter what, you'll get fresh inspiration in NY! Recharge your batteries!
Yikes about the lipstick *hurting*!

Oooh Karen! Since you asked...
Lightly Ripe from the Cult of Cherry Collection is my new HG. But I would love to have it in the Kisser Slicker formula
