Need some help with foundation mix...

Post by srburk » Fri Feb 01, 2013 11:18 am

I am working with medium coverage and the ebony base. I am finding it frustrating. I am quite pale, so I mixed it 1:10. Went outside in full sun and it was too dark. Added two more scoops of white to go to 1:12, and it looked like it blended well in full sun. About forty minutes after I applied a full face, I noticed it had turned a little orange...I looked like I had a slight tan, which is not the look I was going after, lol. My neck and face are very pale so it looked a little mismatched. I think I am pretty cool colored, and I nearly always use the palest shade of anything premixed. I'm not likely to change colors too much, as I always wear something with sunscreen in it. I burn in about five minutes. The only other thing I can think of worth noting is that the middle of my face, particularly my nose, tends to be reddish, and I have acne marks, which is why I prefer medium coverage. I didn't have this same problem matching light coverage, but then maybe that's because it's light coverage?
I really prefer to use mineral makeup as it doesn't freak out my skin like nearly everything else. I will see if I can find a picture, but I am not wearing Silk Naturals in it, and I'm unlikely to have much on besides concealer in any photo.

I could only find one old photo close enough in natural light, please pardon the expression..it was bright!

I think a few more scoops of white should do it. The turning orange after wearing it a while is very common. The powders darken just a bit when they mix with the oils in your skin.

I do think you have the color base right... It is always easier to get a match with the lighter coverage.
