Needing recommendations for "kicked up" one color washes

Post by allyb » Thu Jan 31, 2013 10:57 am

So, this morning in an effort to keep my 3 yo son from whining about watching tv while I was getting ready for work, I asked him to help me pick out my eyeshadow, lip and blush colors (yes, I realize this had the potential to backfire big time :D ). Anyway, for my eyes, he picked out the DC'd Greed Eyewand and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I like it on it's own (had been a little hesitant to use before even though I've had it for a while). So, now I'm looking for suggestions for other amped up colors that can be used on their own. I usually one have time for one or two colors (and really, the skill for one or two, whenever I try more advanced looks they just look like, well, like I let my 3 year old pick out AND apply my eyeshadow). I typically stick to (mostly) neutral shades, but I think I'm ready to dip my toes in the water of more color . . . Thanks ladies!

I have really been liking Glory as a one color wash. It's still fairly neutral, but if you put it over a sticky base the colored glimmers really pop out, especially the peachy ones (to me they almost look red). It's so beautiful!

I like Sari. It's subtle, and the purple comes out in a really pretty way.

The gwp Mercy is gorgeous. I have worn it several times in a week, using homecoming queen as a highlight. Pop is beautiful too.. I wear it a lot in the summer and get compliments all the time on how pretty my eyes look. I also love sizzle, great as a one colour wash but even nicer paired with other shades. Adorn is also a fav I love it when I want to wear just one colour and still have it look interesting and fresh. Glory is one of the most beautiful colours .. I wear it with a good primer and I use fyrinnae's pixie epoxy to keep the sparkles in place.

Highbeam is my favorite (it's peach)

I also really like breathe (purple- this from a girl who has trouble with purples) and charmed (green)

Do you use the Stick 'Em eye primer or something else?

One of my favorite one colour wash is Adorn. Phyra posted here (from her blog) her look of the day with this shadow. I own two jars.

I also own and like Glory. Trouble is more subtle but satiny neutral sandy beige. I tend to favor neutrals.

I usually apply a primer such as Smashbox first. I do own SN Stick Em (and another MMU company sticky primer). I find most SN look pretty without the Stick em and it is one less step.

sorry allyb, i just saw this. yep, i use stick 'em or fyrinnae pixie epoxy over a regular primer. glory looks nice with just a regular primer too but you can't really see the different color shimmers with that one unless you use a sticky base.

Stick'Em definitely makes a difference, I wore it under Glory yesterday as a one colour wash and it was gorgeous.

Another colour I love as a single wash is Surge, my green eyes just pop.

Thanks! I use Stick 'Em already, just thought I'd ask.
