Pale / highlighting eyeshadows

Post by kitten1711 » Sun Sep 14, 2008 5:32 am

Good morning!

I am a biiig mineral make up fan and have only fairly recently discovered SN & am very impressed with what I have ordered so far. I am now building a second cart full of products (which will probably bankrupt me :D ) and am looking for a couple of paler coloured eye shadows - a matte one as a base colour or highlight on more 'natural' days, and a shimmer for evenings etc.

So far I have Bone (off white matte) & Vanilla (shimmery cream) on my wishlist.

I have previously ordered similar looking colours from another mineral company (Everyday Minerals) and whilst the shades appear pefect in the pot & immediately I apply them, after a couple of hours the pale neutral shades all end up somewhat grey looking or not there at all. This seems to be the case whether I use a primer or mattifying base shadow or not. Very frustrating!

I don't want to waste money on more shadows where I will have the same problem, so thought I would get an idea from you ladies if you have ever had this issue with SN shadows? I am hoping they stay true because I would love to order more!

Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I've used SN for over a year and absolutely love Karen's products. Although I've made color choices that didn't work for my skin tone, I've never had a color change significantly on my skin. What I notice is that they "mellow" throughout the day, blending with my skin and looking even better than when I put them on. I like Vanilla, Bone, Sandy and Cream for light colors. Jen can give you great matches for your skin tone if you can post a picture and/or describe it for her. She, Karen and a few other gals here on the forum always have helpful suggestions. I've had only two problems since starting SN - my son's fiance raids my stash whenever she visits and Karen keeps inventing new "must have" colors and textures. Her latest batch is amazing! Good luck with finding your "true colors." You'll have lots of help with the gals on the forum. :D Lauren

You expressed it very well, Lauren! Everything looks even better as the day wears on, in my experience. I don't use any e/s base product, just my foundation, of course, & a sheer wash of some sort as my backdrop.

In all honesty, I was an Everyday Minerals fan before I found Silk Naturals. I had problems getting the EM shadows to last on their own and not turn muddy like you mentioned. I have used various primers, and they performed all right with a primer. I had similar problems with their blushes; they just could not hold their color well and generally turned orangey. Karen does add ingredients to make the colors last longer, as well as sparingly using dyes (not generally in eyecolors, though) to keep colors true. IMO it is a fair trade off. If there are any additional ingredients per color, we list them on the product's ingredient tab. That way you know exactly what you are purchasing. I do continue to use a primer for eyes, but not all the time.

I use a sample of a liquid mineral foundation as a primer part of the time. Like you and Jen, I was an Everyday Minerals user before I migrated over to SN products. I also had problems with the eyeshadows turning muddy on me, I have been using SN exclusively for almost a year and have never had that problem with their eyeshadows whether I use some type of primer or not. I do think that Karen's shadows mellow and blend in with me skin tones more that most shadows that I have used, however even though they may not be quit as viberant was as they were when I applied them first thing in the morning, the colors a still true and they still look great ( or prehaps better) several hours later.
