Questions about a few eyeshadows

Post by EtherealJane » Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:41 am

Me again! I'm already contemplating my next order (there really should be a SN anonymous!) and am planning a big eyeshadow order. I'm not too elaborate with my looks, and usually do a lighter color with a darker/more interesting crease color and then highlight. Sometimes when I'm feeling particularly creative, I'd use a darker color to intensify the look in the outer V, but that's rare. So, here are a couple eyeshadows I'm considering:

Nekkid (looks so pretty, and I wanted a pinker highlight color to mix it up occasionally)
Plush (looks so pretty I just have to have it)--but looking at plush, I noticed creamsicle, and wanted to have it--but I can't find it. Has it been discontinued? If so, is there a similar color that would work well as a lashline to crease color with a brown crease color? (that's one of my favorite color combinations for everyday)
Bittersweet
Brimstone
Brown Sugar
Tweed

I don't know that I *need* both brown sugar and tweed--so can someone counsel me as to their differences to help me decide one way or another? Also, are there other eyeshadows that have been glaringly overlooked? For reference, I'm quite pale and have very blue eyes (there's a terrible photo of me in another thread that I started). I currently own: quartzite, wink wink, nudge nudge, teak-ie, and gator gold.

I'll answer first on the Tweed/BrownSugar-
To my eye, they are very similar. Brown Sugar does have more copper in it, and it is more pigmented (meaning it really does cover better). However, I do also appreciate the more subtle quality of Tweed. Brown Sugar just looks more intense, and for a brown, that is a nice quality. BS just has a better color payoff that is a direct result of the finish.

I will look through my colors to see which is closest to Creamsicle as it is discontinued. Ones that are quite close are Sandstone, Nekkid, and Teenie Bikini. However, I will look at them side by side before I give a final ruling! ;)

As always, Jenn, that was immensely helpful, thank you! Brown sugar it is! I'm glad Nekkid is similar to creamsicle, as I was planning on getting that one anyway! But if there's one that's closer, I may switch them out. Thank you so much for doing some detective work for me :D

I never used to be a big eyeshadow person... I just love how complex Karen's shadows are, and how pretty they look! I always feel glamorous wearing them. Ah well--there could be worse things in life to be addicted to!

On Creamsicle-
Nekkid is very close, but not quite as pink. Nekkid is a warm peachy pink color. Creamsicle is a little cooler peach, but not much.
Sandstone is exactly a shade lighter than Creamsicle, but with less pink. I guess that means it is a coolish peach.
Teenie Bikini and Cabana are a shade darker than Creamsicle and Nekkid. However, Teenie Bikini is really close in hue, just not the depth. Cabana has more gold in it. Teenie Bikini morphs pink, but it has some gold in it, too.

For a fair gal like you, either Sandstone or Nekkid would work, but I think you can do more with Nekkid. You could do a light layer of Nekkid and it would look pretty close to Sandstone. Also, it is kind of like the Tweed/Brown Sugar. Nekkid has a little more color intensity because of the finish.

I do swatch these on my arm to give you a good description. I should just snap a pic. If I can get a good one, I will post.

I just asked my DD which of the 5 swatched on my arm that she liked........She picked Nekkid. ;)

Tell your daughter I appreciate her advice! I'm sold :D If you get a good swatch picture, i'd love to see it, for curiosity's sake, but you've been quite thorough and I'm convinced Nekkid's the one :)

I am always disappointed in swatches. The pics never show the true luster and beauty of the shadows. They really only show enough of the difference to look different IYKWIM. This is on the tanner part of my arm rather than the underside where I usually swatch. They all look a little pinker/more colorful IRL. The camera just washes things out so.

Creamsicle looks really pink. I guess it is. ;)

All good suggestions. The closest blush would probably be Wish You Were Here, but WYWH is more intense in color, but sheerer in application. Strawberries and Champagne is pretty much pink with no peach. Whisper is pale pink, even lighter than Sandstone, with very little peach. The d/c Creamsicle was a peachy pink with a fine gold shimmer. I think currently Creamsicle is just slated for reformulation.

Hi Ethereal jane!....a couple of suggestions....maybe run them by JenW, Highbeam is a nice pale peachy shade to compare with creamsicle. Teenie Bikini is pretty, but to me it leans a little to the orangy side.
Slick is really,really pretty!
