More Preservative-free skin products!

Post by carro » Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:55 pm

I´ve been drooling over several SN products like AHA-toner, several of the moistureizers and eyelash-treatment... but they all contain Gluconoactone and Sodium Benzoate which I seem to be allergic/sensitive to.

Is there a possiblility that you could use alternatives to this, like rosemary extract (Rosmarinus officinalis extract) and vitamin E? Do you really need the preservatives in all products that have it now? How quick does it turn bad without?

I know that it´s impossibel to make products that work for everybody, but since I absolutely love the products I can use - like aprocot cleansing oil, microdermabrationcream and BHA-toner, I thought it wouldn´t hurt to ask.

(Didn´t know if I should post this in the skincare-thread or wish list, feel free to move it)

I'm so sorry you're allergic! It's fairly rare, but it does happen. I'm allergic to a pretty common preservative so I know the frustration.

We have to preserve anything with water in it- with the exception of the BHA because it's already a preservative. They go bad about as quickly as a glass of juice left on your counter- I don't think it would survive the shipping process.

Grapefruit seed extract, rosemary extract, Cosmosil CQ etc. aren't broad spectrum preservatives, and don't really do the job adequately. Sending something out with just those as a preservative is really dangerous. There was a journal article where a salon in a hospital that was watering down the shampoo- there wasn't enough preservative to preserve the extra water and a few people got infections and died (they were immune compromised for starters). I'd rather send something out with parabens than grapefruitseed extract, or no preservative. It's THAT bad.

   Not what I wanted to hear but I´m glad you took the time to answer :) Guess I better keep my eyes open for SN´s "water-free-products".

Sensitive skin and allergies are indeed frustrating! :(
