Choosing the right red
Choosing the right red
I have been looking at the Fall 2011 lipsticks, and they look so pretty that I really want to get a red lipstick. Doesn't have to be from the Fall 2011 collection, can be any SN lippie.
The problem is that I have always been a bit scared of reds because they are so bold and bright, and I also don't know how to choose the correct shade of red for my skintone. I know some are cool reds and some are warms, and I just don't know how to tell which would look good on me.
There's a pic of me in this thread:

Any suggestions are appreciated.
The closest to a red I have tried is Symphony, which I thought was a bit too dark and Temptation which was a bit too orange and pretty bright on me.

Re: Choosing the right red
I'm looking to dip my toe in the shallow end of wearing red lipstick this winter. Symphony is my easy-to-wear dressed up colour. Sultry is a great tone colour for me but I shied away from it because I didn't have the confidence to pull it off. I'm used to sheer glosses in deep colours, so I'm finding opacity of lipstick quite bold and less easy to wear casually. I'd like suggestions, too.
Oxana, you might like Bitten. It's a sheer gloss and, if I remember correctly, it came from a request for a clone of Poppy King's Medieval lip colour. I've had it and it's a tiny bit warm for me. I remember from EDM, you had the same colour skin as me but I'm paler. I think the tone would be good for your skin and the redness is enough to feel classy but the sheerness of the gloss makes it less formal and easier to get comfortable wearing reds. The other one that might work is Reddy although I think that's a cooler tone (not sure).
Although I know a lady who would know..... Andi....
Your speciality, I believe

Re: Choosing the right red
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Bitten looks really nice, and it is nice that it is sheer, so I can gradually get myself accustomed to red
I was Golden Fair in EDM.

Re: Choosing the right red
Why yes, I believe I have all the reds from SN and have worn all of them at one point
Oxana, Bitten is a very nice choice for you. Reddy may be a bit too cool. Hot Blooded is a nice understated red, so it may work, but I think a red with some more presence would look nice on you
Do you have Peachy Keen? It's a somewhat warm darkish but sheer peach but it does lean into red. You may even be able to layer it with bitten to get something warmer if necessary.
If you get curious about the other ones, just PM me, I'd be happy to help out with some samples

Re: Choosing the right red
Thanks, sounds like Bitten is the one I should start out with.
I do not have Peachy Keen. But I will probably just start with one red and see how it works out since I'm going a little out of my comfort zone, and then possibly get more later

Re: Choosing the right red
I was also Golden Fair in EDM, and I love Bitten. It is buildable for me, so it would be a good gateway-red.

Re: Choosing the right red
I almost gave up looking for my red as all my experiments were not successful and I decided to stop wasting money, but when I found SN I gave several reds a try. To me Hot Blooded is the most wearable red I have ever tried. It is a perfect Fall color
It was the first one and yet the best.
This summer I also fell in love with Dixie that looks red on me and topped with Glacier or Peachy keen or Transparent ALG it becomes different bright red. But also wearable. It is absolutely different from Hot Blooded.

Just read the description of Hot Blooded and it sounds really nice! Thank you for the advice!Die Marchen wrote:I almost gave up looking for my red as all my experiments were not successful and I decided to stop wasting money, but when I found SN I gave several reds a try. I didn't get it this time around because there was just too much I wanted. But hopefully I can get it in the future, and when I do I will definitely post about how it worked outDie Marchen wrote:If you decide to try it - please let me know how you like it
