I've always thought I was cool but wondered if maybe it would be better to try something slightly yellow to counteract the red tones in my skin. Here is a very old pic of me (wearing Revlon Colorstay in Ivory I think - worn this for so long as it's the only foundation I've found that is a reasonable color match and offers good coverage). I've found that I do look best in cool colored clothes however, especially navy and that any browns on my eyes look horrendous. My hair is now much lighter and more honey colored although it's naturally very ash brown. Any advice would be much appreciated. TBH I'm a little intimidated about actually mixing a foundation.
I am happy to help. I have got to warn you, though.....From reading the pic, I would tend to go slightly warm toned, but it could be the hair color is doing a good job of tricking the eye! And with the rosacea, it tends to lead me to Olive as it will help a little with the redness. Still, your description leads me to Ebony. I would start with single colors, because the singles are much easier to manage. Really, it is probably best to start with a kit. I know you want to wear heavy coverage. It is very difficult to start right in with heavy coverage and get a good match. I would start with Medium Coverage to get a good match, and move up from there. I think I have the beginnings of rosacea (mainly on the cheeks/nose...but I can usually keep it mostly in check by carefully chosing the products I use) and I wear the lightest coverage foundation without issue. You might want to consider All Purpose white base as it will be the simplest in ingredients with less in it to trigger your rosacea. Since you are transitioning from liquid makeup, you will likely have to make sure your skincare routine can handle the switch and maintain your skin's hydration level. Mineral makeup can seem much drier as it lacks the liquid component, and I am just concerned about preserving the balance in skin that is finicky when trying something new.

Hi-new here. I've tried shadows and concealer from SN and really love them. Not sure how to pick a foundation, though. Wow I didn't know my pictures were going to be so HUGE
Sorry :o  If it helps, I have an Italian background. I would describe myself as being light-medium, and have been told I'm olive, but I've also been told I'm neutral. I am SO hard to match.

birdiegirl72-

I am going to say Olive for sure. Our Olive is pretty neutral, too. Those that are very Olive have to add more green. I am guessing about 1 scoop color to about 12+ white. (12+ means 12 scoops and possibly a few more...)

I'm new here and about to purchase my first SN products! So excited! I'm probably going to stick with samples this time around to test things out. I could really use some advice with foundation and concealer shades and formulas. I'm generally fair/light skinned with neutral, maybe slightly cool undertones. I was matched at MAC as a NW20 if that helps. I'm assuming I'd go with the ebony when I start to mix? I also can't decide which formula to get. My skin is oily and clog prone, AND a bit sensitive. (Awesome combo I know  ) Generally I like light coverage, but I could use some heavier coverage in some spots. I also really need a good under eye concealer. I have bluish/purple under eye circles :( I was going to test the cream and powder but I can't decide between the extra light peach and light peach. Also, would a certain finishing powder be better than others?

So sorry for all the questions! Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I attached a photo of myself. It's a little old and was taken with flash, but it seems pretty accurate to me.

Hello! I'm brand new here, just received my foundation sample package in the mail, and I'm having trouble determining my skin's undertones. I tried mixing 1 ebony with 8 ivory and it seems too pink. My mom has always told me I have olive undertones but I don't really know what that means. I'm very fair, freckled, and burn easily. My father was Italian/Sicilian and my mom is of mostly Irish descent. I look best in jewel tones, like maroons, deep pinks, and dark greens. The photos show my natural coloring (hair is jet black with red highlights in the sun). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am thinking Olive since Ebony was too pink. Try it at about 1 scoop color to 12+ scoops of white. I am pretty close to your skintone and I use 1:14.

Thank you! Olive worked perfectly. For some reason I thought the sample kit didn't come with olive but I looked in my package again and found it. Looooove this foundation.

I just got my samples in the mail last week! Loving everything so far except I'm still struggling with getting my foundation color. I posted here a week ago, but I kind of rambled on and probably didn't make any sense haha.

I'm using the Vegan sample kit (although I may order the All Purpose next time). I started with 1 scoop ebony and 8 ivory, but too dark. Went up to 11 ivory, but looked a little too pink. I added 1/2 scoop of warm gold and 1 more of ivory, it's better but still doesn't look quite right. Maybe a little orangey? I'm wondering if I should start over and try olive instead of the ebony....

I was matched NW20 in mac, but personally I think I'm more neutral than anything. I look best in silver jewelry and clothes with rich, jewel tones. I'm fair/light skinned. I can tan but only lightly and gradually, and I burn very easily. I also tend to freckle on my cheeks and nose during the summer. My hair is ashy brown but if you look at it under direct sunlight, it almost has a reddish gold glimmer to it. I attached some photos below. 1) inside with flash 2) outside, cloudy afternoon 3) outside, early clear evening

I'm also wondering if I should try some green concealer for around my nose area which tends to get a little red.

You are most likely an Olive, too. Try 1 scoop color to about 14-16 white.
