"Like ___ but less ___" (lippie help request)

Post by GhillieDhu » Tue Apr 19, 2011 4:24 am

Okay, so I know the answer to every possible question is probably on the forum somewhere, but there's so much information here that even the search results are kind of overwhelming!

I have fair warmish-neutral skin and lips that vary from a corpse-like pale mauve to bright warm pink depending on how I'm feeling. So far I've tried Peace, Breathless, and Berry Nice KS. I adore the Kisser Slicker formula, and the colors are all wearable, just not QUITE what I'd use every day.

I prefer sheer formulas with low-to-no shimmer, and I avoid liquid lip glosses most of the time. Given that, what lippies would you say are:
Similar to Breathless, but less brown and maybe a tiny bit lighter? (Cultured? Aria? Bisou?)
Like Peace, but less "frosted" and a bit warmer? (Darling?)
Sheer and saturated like Berry Nice, but with less blue? (Soft? Rare Berry?)
Most like TheBalm Read My Lips lipstick in Classified? It's my HG nude, but I could buy 4 SN for that price! :)

I'm also looking for a good sheer coral without too much orange... I have Rimmel Coral Shimmer, which looks like a sheerer version of Mirabelle, but I'd like something in the same family that's not sparkly. Is Truly more of a pink-coral or an orange-coral, and how shimmery is it in real life? What about Verve?

Thanks in advance!

Since you are asking for Kisser Slickers...here are my swatches..... they can help in determining which colors might be more/less brown/shimmery, but not really how they will look on your lips.

For Classified....is there any pink at all? If so, Centerfold might be a good option. Or Negligee in the lipstick formula. Or Mirage in the Vegan Formula.

Haha (I think) I feel you! I found my HG color in Guerlain and finding the perfect dupe (in SN, I found the exact same in Revlon) takes some effort. I am really really happy with Cultured and Maiden although they're somewhat a bit too pink or/and too brown from my HG.

Breathless - I think Cultured might be what you're looking for. It's lighter in color, about the same depth, on me it looks a bit too pink on first application but let it settles and it turns into a really beautiful color. Even in photos it looks kinda peachy/sheer orange, although it's more pink in reality.
I can't vouch for Aria yet, since it's still on the way. It should arrive in 2-3 days. I'll let you know. I can't wait!

Peace - I think you might like Maiden. It's somewhat like Cultured in a different way. A bit more opaque than Peace but a very nice nude pink on the lips, but not that pink. Pink in a good way. I'm yellow/warm too. Some pinks are too pink, and some peach turn into a horrid orange on me.
Again, I can't vouch for Darling yet since it shares the same envelope with Aria.

None of my suggestions show true shimmer on the lips. Only velvety smooth plump nicely coloured lips. ;)

Wonderful. Cultured has been on my wishlist for a while, and it's definitely going into the next order now. Thanks, all!

I love Darling. It's more of a liptint, sheer but the colour shows. It's very warm and on my lips are kinda MLBB. No frost too, compared with Peace.

Darling's something I'd repurchase again as an easy colour to throw on once I work through my stash of 20+ SN lip colours :D

I looked up for Classified swatch and it might somewhere near Caramel or Cultured I think. Looking at the lipstick itself, the color is really similar to Caramel. I might be wrong tho.

Aria is marvelous for a warm pink-MLBB kind of color.

Darling is indeed warmer, the color is OH-SO-BEAUTIFUL, but sooo sheer I can't wear it. It doesn't show up on my lips at all. I'm about NC25. I ended up giving it to my babysister who is NC15 and it looks TOTALLY GORGEOUS on her lips. Perfect MLBB. Perfect peach-pink. Perfect flush of color. Not that sheer. Just like what I hope Nars Barbarella would look on me. Crappy isn't it?

FYI, I'm so not speaking to my babysister right now. She's been pouting her lips with Darling on to my face this whole day.

I stumbled upon this post on Google and I just had to rectify my statement.

Darling is GORGEOUS!! It turns out that all I had to do were apply several times and wait a few minutes to let the color settle and VOILA! The most gorgeous peach-pink lips! You won't regret getting this. :)
