applying mineral makeup

Post by Rosy1 » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:04 pm

Hi everyone,

This seems like a friendly place :) so I'm hoping some of you can help me with learning how to apply MMU well. I have a lot of rosacea, both the redness and the bumps, to cover. So after I get my shade mixing sorted out I'll want to try the heavy coverage formula and also try applying the all-purpose formulation wet. I've watched videos on YouTube of people applying MMU, but the people I've watched don't have such severe skin problems to cover as I do.

One thing I'm having trouble with is applying it in the little dents on the sides of the base of my nose. I've got spider veins there that need to be covered. I thought the Flat Top Kabuki brush would get in there, but it doesn't. I used a crease brush to get in there and ended up applying too much, it got caky, and there wasn't really any way to buff it away. Maybe the Bamboo Blending Brush or the Flat Concealer/Eye brush would work? I'm pretty sure that the brush I used has natural bristles. I've used it to apply some other powders successfully, but this didn't work.

How do you go about applying the all-purpose foundation wet? Do you spray your face, the brush, or both, and if so, with what? Or can you just dampen the brush under the faucet and get rid of the excess water with a tissue?

On humid days my forehead can start sweating before I can get my makeup on, and then I have a mess, especially since I really need to blend my foundation into my hairline. Even if I blot every few seconds with a tissue, my forehead keeps dampening up. Anyone else have this problem? I haven't figured out what to do when I don't have time to sit down and cool off. :?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know others will chime in, but here is my version. We all have our ways to accomplish the perfect application.

For around your nose...a largish eyeshadow brush (cat tongue shape like our flat concealer/eye brush) will get into those areas for you, but you have to be careful not to overload the brush with product. Your brush will probably work fine. Try tapping some off before application, and apply in layers.

I am not the wet application pro, but I understand they spritz the brush after loading the product on it.

I know you feel you have lots to cover, but it usually looks more natural if you try to blur the skin issues rather than mask them. Also the wet application might help a little with the sweat issue.

Thanks, Jen, I have a little brush that shape with synthetic bristles and I'll try it. I think the one I used this morning was too round and fluffy and picked up too much product.

Some more questions I thought of --

When wearing glasses, what do you do about the dents that form in your makeup where your glasses rest on your nose?

And what about blowing your nose? I had to blow my nose and a lot of my makeup came off between my nose and my lip. Since the color of my skin isn't the same everywhere on my face, and since blowing my nose also makes my skin get redder, it was pretty noticeable.

I realize most women probably figure these things out as teenagers, so I feel like a bit of an ignoramus, but will appreciate help from you all :)

Rosy1 you will have to do touch ups if you blow your nose and wipe it away. I have not found any foundation that stays. And it you glasses remove your MU touch up there too. HTH :) :)

LOL, doesn't that make sense! So, carry makeup with me everywhere and run off to the bathroom every time I have to sneeze... now I remember why I resisted wearing makeup for all those years! ;) Thank you for having patience with me :)
