Lippie/ Blush recommendations, please !

Post by meriT83 » Tue Mar 22, 2011 3:16 am

Hi everyone,

Since im a newbie here, i thought i'd post a pic and see what recommendations i can get for lippies and blush.

I don't wear much makeup, other than eyeliner and lipstick; mostly because i dont really know what will work for me. I don't like bold colors (or rather i'm scared of trying them!) and prefer light wash of color. As you can see in the pic, my lips are pigmented, so i don't know what colors i should go for. I have generally gone in the past for browns, plums, deep pinks(though i feel pink doesnt really suit me) What do you girls think for lippies and blushes for me? I'd love to have a nude color. Will birthday suit, fig leaf, jaybird, breathless, nectar suit me( ive no clue whether they will but their descriptions sound good to me :) ) or should i go for a bit more darker ones ? Im open to all kinds of suggestions :)

But nothing over the top, just daily wearable colors and maybe one for the evening.

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations !

P.S Btw, are you girls seeing me as being olive toned ?

Yep, fig leaf will be an exact match for your lips and vintage and berry nice will be your lips but better! Autumn ember is slightly brownish but very flattering. Definitely get atleast a sample size of embrace and palace - you will ROCK them :)

My first instinct is a golden-orange coral, but I can see a warm plum, like a wine color, working too. Perhaps Nuance, Phoenix?

For lips, I'm guessing again that warmer plum tones will be flattering, which is why Vintage as a reddish plum would be great, and for a washed-out nude, IDK whether Caramel or Iced Mocha might work? I think Mirage would be too light for sure and XXX will be too cool and too light. I haven't tried Menage, but I'm wondering about that and for lip sticks, Eternal, Negligee, Cayenne, and Raisin.

I'm not as strong with color rec's as some of the other gals so I hope you get add'l recs from others as you select some things to try! I hope this is at least a bit helpful to you :)

In response to your question -- I see olive, but also like a warm golden color in your skin, so you will need to try a few things to find the right balance of warm and cool tones. The plum will balance the coolness of the olive, I think, as long as it's kept on the warm side of plum, and the coral-orange would complement the warm golden tone without fighting the olive. Browns might be tricky but I can see purplish brown working, like a raisin color with some warmth to it. Maybe coppery browns, too, but I'd be wary of anything too cool in the brown family.

Those seem to be some really good colors, the more i see the more i want :D i want them all !!!!
But for the time being, i wanted to get 2-4 colors which will work for me, for sure....ones i cant go wrong with ( so that i keep coming back for more again :D )

Hopefully, i will be able to narrow down soon and place my very first order...i hope someone else comes along too, to give some suggestions :)

The reason i asked whether i looked olive is because jen said i should try the olive foundation ( 1:5 olive + some yellow or peach as required) and said that the other bases would probably not be dark enough for me. I wanted to know whether others seem to see me as being olive toned too, from that perspective, of finding a foundation match. So in tht sense, do you feel the same too ?( i know Jen's the expert but i just have to ask :D; it's not been easy finding a foundation match :( )

My sister is about the same shade as you and she really pulls off mauve colors, which looks horrible on me any my other baby sister (we're the lighter shades). However, she usually wears the lippies I ordered and I have never ordered any mauve by far. She hates Negligee (we all wanted to like Negligee so bad but it just can't look good on any of us) and Mirage (it's too pale for her, but the perfect wash-out nude for me). She look great in Birthday Suit and she falls madly in love with Caramel. I bet Jaybird may also look good on you.

For blushes, my sister loves Palace and Forever cream blush so much.

Hope that helps!
