AdoptYourNextPet wrote:Hi everyone,

I'm new to silk naturals and am wondering if anyone can help me with a recipe. I consider myself to be pretty pale and have some redness from acne and sensitivity that I would like to tone down. Jen from the MEOW forums said I was "mostly beige/neutral, with a bit of yellow and the slightest touch of peach". For references I am currently wearing Meow FF in Frisky/Naughty Abyssinian (not the lightest shades I was totally shocked!) with a ratio of 3 or 4:1. In BE I was Fair (1c) but it was a little to dark. MAC was NC15, again to dark. I have never found a match in EDM, but never came up with a match, and tried JLynne way to long ago to remember if I came up with a match or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have ordered the sample kit, hopefully it will go out on Monday...you poor East coasters and Snowpocalypse.

I will try and attach a picture but my computer and phone don't seem to get along =(

TIA

Jeni
Based upon your Meow color, you will be somewhere between Buttery Gold, Olive, and Ebony. NC15 is about an Olive 1:16, or a Warm Gold 1:9. I am thinking Warm Gold on its own will be too peach, Buttery gold will be too yellow on its own. I would probably start with Olive at a 1:16 and add Yellow Booster if needed.

I'm having serious trouble with the actual 'mixing' part of creating a foundation. I have the colour down pat, but not getting it all to go together.

I've been trying to mix my foundation for the better part of 2 weeks now, on and off (probably an hour in total). Its Olive 1.5 Buttery Gold .5 and 12 Medium Coverage.

No matter how I mix it, it is absolutely streaky. I have tried shaking it in the jar with and without a sifter. I have tried mixing it with the spoon. I have tried putting it into a baggie and shaking it.

I am running out of ideas. I really love the foundation, and I don't want to have to give up because I can't get it to mix properly!

I have had great success with the same combination, but with heavy coverage for some concealer. This hasn't been very streaky (ok maybe like 1 or 2 streaks since I've used it) and I didn't have to mix it for as long (I just shook this in the container without a sifter) and a bit of mixing with the spoon....

Where am I going wrong?? Thanks in advance :)

For the baggie mixing, are you mooshing (yes..very technical term) or just shaking? If you moosh the bag around between your hands and fingers, it tends to blend better. The powders move much more this way than simply shaking.

When all else fails for mixing, I recommend a small blender. Mine is an off brand of Magic Bullet, and I mix foundation for family as well as friends. I picked it up at a big box type discount store several years ago. Of course it is a dedicated appliance, and I only use it for blending foundation. It does not go near my kitchen unless I am washing it out, which I do by hand. I also recommend taking precautions for dust like a dust mask.

No I haven't been mooshing! It didn't even cross my mind.
I will definitely try to moosh it up now - thanks for the suggestions :) I'll keep my eye out for a smaller blender (I only have a ridiculously large thermomix on the go at the moment!) Thanks so much :)

A small coffee grinder may work as well

Hi Jen!

I am intrigued by the concept of mix-your-own MMU but have no idea where to begin. The only foundations I've ever used have been drugstore buys so I am a newb on that front as well! I can't wait to try a quality MMU! Yesterday I ordered the All-Purpose Sample Kit, as the description made it sound more suited for my drrryyyy combo skin. I think medium coverage is what I'm after, but some experimenting will confirm. As far as coloring goes, my natural hair color is a warm dark brown, my eyes are a slightly greeny dark brown, and my veins look bluish-green in natural light. I've posted a few pictures that I hope will be good enough to work with; I have bit of tan and am not wearing foundation in the first one, just some light powder, and in the second one my Neutrogena mineral sheers foundation is clearly too yellow for my skin. And I'm pointing to my fresh sunburn. Oh well, ya live and learn. The last one I just took today, and I am wearing mineral powder - you can look at my neck color, if that helps. All three are in "natural" window light. Let me know if photobooth pictures won't cut it!

Thanks for the help! You are awesome to provide this service!

Hi everyone! :D I need help picking colors please! I have no idea what I am. But I'm reluctant to post a public picture. Any way I can message you privately Jen, would that be ok? Not very sure how this all works, but it looks exciting  (Don't know what that smiley means but I like it!)

Your pics are great help! I would start with Olive at a 1 scoop color to about 10 white ratio.
