Cleansing conditioner and acne?

Post by ChristineLynnP » Sun Jan 23, 2011 12:24 pm

I have very, very finicky skin. I'm probably in about the happiest place my skin has ever been, which still leaves plenty to be desired... I really have hormonal issues, and the acne I getalong my jawline every month never really heals, it just tends to leave pigmentation behind forever, but whereas the simple solution seems to be going on birth control, I also have high blood pressure so that's not an option for me :? but as a result, I'm so hesitant to use new products as I never really know how my skin will react, but I'm really wanting to try the cleansing conditioners with my next order. Has everyone's skin tolerated it really well? Regular shampoos and conditioners, gels, sprays, etc. always made me break out all along the hairline, forehead, pretty much the whole perimeter of my face, and shoulders/neck, so right now I just use shampoo bars and natural soap to cleanse and an ACV rinse after, then use a few drops of a natural leave-in conditioning serum most mornings. My skin is happy with this, and my hair is healthier than it used to be, but it's so thick and curly I think it still needs more TLC than my current routine and I'm too chicken to go the no shampoo route altogether. I guess my real concern in the castor oil... while I can't be 100% certain, this seems to be the most likely culprit in why pretty much every lip product out there makes me break out around my lips. Karen or Jen, maybe you could tell me if the concentration of castor oil is very high in the cleansing conditioners?

I can only guess. The total percentage of the entire oil phase of any product like this is lowish, but it also has a surfactant in theis case. If you have a sensitivity to it, I am not sure it is worth the risk. Hopefully Karen will ahve more insight than I do.

I don't know if it's worth the risk either  . I can't use SN's lip colors because what I guess is the castor oil breaks me out around the lips... but my friend has an mmu company and her lip colors do have castor oil in them, but she said it's a tiny amount to disperse the pigments... and I'm ok using that. So I'm not sure if the castor oil is a main ingredient in the cleansing conditioner, or if it serves a similar, more functional purpose and I'll be ok with it? It's so tough having fickle, tempramental skin

I took a risk (my skin doesn't like castor oil) and tried the conditioner. After two uses I got terrible, painful lumps (guessing they were acne) around my hair line, my back/neck hair line and near my ears was the worst. I also had a nasty break out on my neck between my chin and ears. This tends to happen to me w/ many oils, but castor is the worst. It took about two weeks to fully clear up. I can use Cliniques Almost Lip Stick w/out issues and I believe it has Castor Oil...my guess is just a tiny amout.
