the "ultimate" spring blush?

Post by Annika » Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:15 pm

I'm looking for the perfect blush... as if such a thing exists ;)

I have Satisfied, and in general it is great. It is slightly too pigmented and sparkly for me in winter though, and sometimes a little too red and not peachy enough, if that makes sense.
I'd like something that's light enough that I don't have to be super careful when applying it, but not so light that it doesn't show up on me.

I have tried:

- Climax: didn't show up on me no matter how much I put on!
- Flirt: loooooooooove!!!! Very fresh pink, makes me feel very pretty
- Flare: again, looooooove!!!! Great color, but so sheer I need to use quite a lot
- Bronze Beauty: didn't work at all. Ugh. I think it was too dark, or too brown, or too cool.
- Galaxy: Way too dark and red.
- Lady: Too cool.
- Guava: Too dark, too cool.
- Lychee: Too cool, way too dark.
- Tart Light:  I know many people love this, but... no I feel bad bashing items. Let's just say that I keep it because I like the pure pink pigments that I can blend in my undereye concealer. Not a great blush for me.
- Cider: I don't remember why I didn't like it. In theory I should. I guess it was too brown? Think I'll try it again.
- Palace: Awesome, but sadly too dark.

In the category "not blushes but I tried them as such":
- Halo: Oh. The. Shimmer. A semi-matte version of this might be nice.
- Siren: Again, super shimmery and too dark, but I think the color itself is good.
- Madison: Nice pink, super shimmery. I like to use a little bit of this as a cheekbone highlight.

Anyway.

I will repurchase Flirt, and probably Flare. However, I also have my eyes on Ginger, Wish You Were Here, Lovelace, Poppy and Nuance. How do they compare to Flare/Satisfied?

I am desperately trying to simplify and unclutter my home and my life, so I don't want lots and lots of blushes.
Ideally I think I want a blush that is light and sheer, very warm with golden rather than brown undertones. Yard Sale from EDM is *almost* the perfect color for me, but my sample is almost finished and I am not buying from them anymore. Also Silk Naturals quality and finish are outstanding.

I don't mind shimmer, as long as it's not too much; I prefer sheen over sparkle when it comes to blushes. I do love me some super sparkly eyeshadows so I have concluded that it's better to keep the cheeks somewhat neutral.

Advice, anyone?

Lovelace immediately came to mind..... ;)

Hopefully others will chime in, too. Otherwise, I will get them all out soon and do a comparison for you. Did you see my swatches?

Thanks! I have looked at some swatches but couldn't find one that had all of these in side-by-side comparison :) Also it seems like most of the ladies here are more into cool-toned blushes so there isn't as much talk about the ones I fancy :?

What's the main difference between Lovelace and Flare?

Wait! I found swatches! http://host.silknaturals.com/forum/view ... 140#p25407
Lovelace is darker, Flare and Wish You Were Here look quite similar. All three lovely.

Nuance looks a bit too similar to Bronze Beauty to work for me I think...

What about Poppy? Does anyone use it?

Poppy looks almost orange on my skin, and I don't really use it. I do use Lovelace though when I want something light and peachy, and has a slight shimmer to it. Not to deviate from your narrowed down choices, but Petal may be a better choice than Poppy; it seems warmer and lighter.

BTW, have you tried Foxxy? It's a bit lighter and more shimmery than Flirt, but in the same color and tone range, at least on me :)

I have warm golden toned skin. Back when I wore EDM I wore Warm Medium Beige. My best SN mix is either 1olive to12 all purpose foundation with a little yellow color booster, or a 1- 13 or 14 mix of buttery gold and all purpose foundation, so that gives you a hint of my skin tone. My absolute favorite blushes are: Lovelace and Foxxy. Lovelace is the perfect peachy glow, and Foxxy is a warmer than Flirt on me, so I like it better.

I also like Forbidden applied lightly, but it tends to lean red. Ginger is good also.

It sounds like you like the same shades as me, although i can wear more brown than you seem to. My alltime favorite was/is Sassy which was a straight on sheer matte peach (i think it's due for a revival, but that's just me lol) and lovelace was kind of made to replace it (though lovelace is a much more intense and slightly pinker version). It had a shimmer version called "rich" also discontinued.

Of what's available on the site, I recommend trying samples of (left to right) lovelace, ginger, wish you were here, and devoted (cream blush)

If you like, I'd happily send you a sample of sassy- with the caution that it was discontinued well over a year ago and cannot be purchased unless it is re-released. I just happen to have it in surplus (read as: multiple fullsizes, multiple sample sizes, and at least one pressed pan) send me your address if you'd like to try it. If you fall in love with it, you can always beg for a revival- everyone knows it's been my favorite since i started using SN in 2007.

I don't know how you feel about cream blushes, but you can also try lippies as cream blushes (like the new ambrosia, or precious)

Also, i have to ask: do you have a fiber optic blush brush? If so, you have a pretty good gauge of what's "wearable", but if not, you'll be amazed at the doors a fiber optic opens for you.

Thank you!
I do have a fiber optic blush brush - two, in fact :D They help with the more pigmented blushes, but there's something about some of the darker pigments that clashes with my skin; so I have to use extremely little and then it tends to go away very quickly :(

Sassy looks gorgeous and might be just what I'm looking for, but I think I'll try the blushes that are available first... if neither of them is what I search I may have to take you up on your offer - thank you, that is so generous of you!

Now I also have to check out Petal and Foxxy... ;) Shoot, it would be so much easier if there were only two to choose from!

Annika...try Afterglow. I've finished mine....but I seem to recall that in color depth it was sort of halfway between Climax and Satisfied. I really liked it...the color was amped up Climax, but not as *in your face* as Satisfied. Karen says its the 3rd version of cloning Nars Orgasm.
Another sample to add to your list!

Annika, I'm facing the samу problems, I have tried a lot, but not my HG. I'm waiting for Wish you were here and Satisfied samples and I'll write my impressions as I get them.

- Flirt - Flare: haven't tried but now I will!
- Bronze Beauty: - the same as you
- Galaxy: Haven't tried
- Lady: Haven't tried
- Guava: - the same as you
- Lychee: - the same as you
- Tart Light: - not great on me. Could you please tell me more how do you use it with a concealer? I still haven't found hg concealer.
- Cider: it was too yellow on me, I thought it is impossible, but it was
- Palace: Haven't tried

In the category "not blushes but I tried them as such":
- Halo: maybe someday I find a proper event for it)
- Siren: The same
- Madison: haven't tried

But I tried Ginger - don't remember why I didn't like it.. have to try again. Will let you know asap

Afterglow - it was the most interesting thing I have tried yet. Once I applied too much it was awful, I had to tone it down with tons of powder)) But it doesn't go with all the makeup styles

Forbidden - got it as a free sample and was impressed. You need the tiniest drop to get very bright cheeks) I tried it with Hot Blooded and very simple eyes - stunning))) I went skating with this makeup and got compliments how fresh I look. This sample will last me years I think.

Phoenix - it is very dramatic

My best blushes now are by Ocean Mist Cosm. - Elegant Nude and Clearly Luminous Powder (it is a glow, but it is dusty pink and I use it as a blush) - I have full sizes since I didn't know about SN, I like them, but got tired and want smth else))) Still in search
