Super Serum allergy

Post by egerandi » Tue Jan 18, 2011 6:56 pm

I'm sad to say that I somehow developed sensitivity to the Super Serum. I don't think I was overusing it, as I've been alternating with the Facelift one, and took a break from both for a while too. First, I noticed that it didn't like to be put on exfoliated (not chemically, but with beads) face, then no matter what I used to wash my face with, even KISS, after toning, I put it on and a minute later buuuuurn. I waited a few days, tried it again, still burns, my whole face turns into a roasted tomato and it hurts so, that I have to take an advil and an allergy pill. What the... meh.

Any suggestion for daytime serum? I'm still using Facelift successfully for the night, never a reaction, but I would like something for the morning that doesn't increase sun sensitivity. I would also love something from SN that I can use on my slight age spots. I have no idea which ingredient bothers me, but whatever is in Facelift, can be excluded.
Also, I eat a lot of pumpkin seeds without adverse reaction, lots of seaweed too and drink green tea and take MSM internally in powder form. So yeah, no idea what's going on, unless it's the Niacinamide and it thinks my face is a constant acid bed. grrr.

I use Facelift in the am and pm when my skin is not playing nicely with Super Serum. Even if you don't want to always use it that way, it might get you by until you decide what to use in the place of Super Serum. As far as I know, the only products we have that sensitize your skin to the sun are AHA and BHA Toners...and really any exfoliation sensitizes your skin to the sun.

I can't use the super serum either. I use facelift in the morning. I don't use a serum at night. The facelift and the vitamin c serums should both help with the age spots. It's the vitamin c that helps.

Thanks ladies, I'll stick with Facelift for now and may add the vit c for extra boost if I wanna give the Facelift a little break.

Have you tried dilluting it? I tend to have really bad sensitivity to the super serum (i have tomatoed my face before, and yes- it was still pink a day later- a nice, uniform, even toned pink, but pink like a fading sunburn), but find i can use it if i dillute it with water in my hands. I'll wash my face (with KISS if I was wearing makeup, just water if I wasn't) then run my hands under the water, put a few drops of super serum on one hand and rub my hands together and apply all over. Sometimes, I run my hands under the faucet again and do a pat down of my face. I usually apply my moisturizer while my face is still damp.

I find that it's the drying process that tends to screw with my skin- if i wasn't hydrated enough or something, i can feel the serum soaking in and my skin tightening before it starts to burn. I had the same problem with the eye depuffing gel.

Pink for a day, oh darn! I think my allergy pill took the edge, that's why it went away in an hour.
And yes, it seems to be the same thing for me: it feels worse when I leave it to dry before putting anything else on. I just thought I need to use it that way, so the actives can work their magic without being diluted, but I'd rather dilute and get at least a little benefit. I was even thinking about using the hydrating serum first and layer SS on top, I just gave up on experimenting, it hurt so much :(
OK, I'll try again and see what happens!

OK, the hydrating and not letting it dry trick worked, I can resume using SS again, thanks! I'll still leave it for the evening, I can't afford any more tomato accidents in the morning and be late from work :)

My face randomly gets sensitive to products. I think it all depends on it's hydration level. If I don't moisturize enough, I get sensitive to most products. I think your idea to keep water on your face is a good one. Water also acts as a vehicle to take the product deeper into the skin. I guess that's why moisturizing is the golden rule of healthy skin.
