For coverage level, Original is more forgiving on a match, but I think you will want Medium Coverage, or even our new All Purpose white base, especially if your skin is on the dry side.
Hi Jen, I got my sample kit (with samples of the All Purpose and the Medium coverage.) My first attempt is 2 1/2 scoops buttery gold to 8 scoops All Purpose. It seems pretty good; I have a picture on my phone (may I email it to you so that I don't have to sync/upload photos from phone/come back here/upload pics? I can email direct from phone!) I'm wondering how much yellow or green booster I might need. It also doesn't get *rid* of the redness, just tones it down some and makes it blend with the rest of my face (certainly won't need any blush, sadly, since I got lots of gorgeous blush samples to try!) Does this mean I need heavier coverage, or unblush underneath, or what?

You're a wizard! You're almost never wrong--how do you DO it from a few bad photos?
Hi Jen,
It still looks just slightly orangey or muddy/peachy on me. I'm wondering if I should try a batch with JUST yellow booster and no buttery gold. (Is there anything besides yellow iron oxide in the buttery gold that would be making this oranginess? Maybe some of the red oxide might orange/peach it out a bit, or the brown/umber tone?) Would that be crazy? The 2.5 scoops/8 scoops AP is pretty close in terms of depth, I think. How much yellow booster should I try with the heavy coverage base if you think this might work?

I don't think just the yellow will work. In Buttery Gold there are also skintoned pigments that are brown. The brown plus yellow makes gold. I think it is more likely that you need it to be a little lighter or paler. Mineral foundation should go on a little light or pale. After about a half hour it starts to blend with the oils in your skin, and oil turns pigment slightly darker.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a good holiday.

I've been thinking about ordering from silk naturals (my bare mineral is breaking me out with increased used over the holidays xp), and I just want to get some ideas on how to mix for my skin tone.

I am Chinese, so Asian skin tone. I'm rather fair and I've always felt that my skin has more of a pinkish tone as opposed to yellow.
I usually prefer my foundation to be a little on the lighter side, but that usually ends up with making me too pale and sickly looking. I know it's contradictory, but I almost want to achieve this porcelain doll skin tone and look healthy at the same time, which i usually just do by adding blush.

Right now, I use bare mineral in fairly light. It is actually a little bit too light for my skin tone, but I find a light to be a little bit too dark.

here are some photos for reference, all with no makeup.

This is my skin in overcast weather. so the most natural lighting?

These pictures are taken indoor with sun shining through window but not directly on me.

this is same lighting condition, but i guess the sun was a little behind the clouds...

And also, with the amount of unevenness on my skin, do you think I'll need the medium coverage?
Sometimes i'm a little iffy with heavy coverage foundation, I tend to think heavier coverage will result in more damages to skin, does that apply to silk naturals foundations?

Thanks a bunch to reading my post xp

I would start with Warm Gold. Other color bases that might work are Buttery Gold and Olive (in case the Warm Gold is not quite right and you want to maximize your shipping.)

In Warm Gold, I think you will be about a 1 scoop color to about 8 or 9 white. Medium Coverage should be good. In Buttery Gold, it will be about the same ratio as Warm Gold, and for Olive it will be about a 1:12 ratio.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi!

As many others, I've decided to move away from EDM and start to use another MMU brand and I've heard a lot of good stuff about SN. I'm not sure if I ended up with the right EDM foundation shade. I've been using a 50:50 blend of beige sandy fair and beige sunkissed fair however I seemed to be able to use some shades from the cool range as well. Sandy fair/sunkissed fair matched my skintone regarding the lightness but it felt like they washed my colours away somehow. My skin is very sensitive and become red easily.

These pictures are taken in front of a window during winter time. Summer time it's not a huge difference :(

hi! I've heard a lot about Silk Naturals but I always felt deterred by having to mix my own colors. but I think now I've gotten my courage up and am willing to do so :)

Here are some photos of me!

in the second photo I am not wearing makeup, and you can see the difference in tone between my face and neck. this was taken during the summer, when I actually was a bit lighter than I am now. I basically stayed out of the sun all summer :(

I use Revlon PhotoReady in Vanilla, and MAC NC15-20. with mineral makeup it always seems like I think I have the right shade and then after a few months or so, I realize it's wrong -_- currently I use The All Natural Face foundation in Porcelain Kissed by Honey (though now I believe I need Almond Goddess, the next shade darker), and last time I habitually used Meow foundation I used the Flawless Feline formula in Sleek Korat, but I swapped it away because I got darker. I've recently tried a sample of Frisky Korat and it seems fine, though I'll need to test it further. I've also been trying Lucy Minerals and SO FAR it looks like Pale Olive is an excellent match (fingers crossed that it won't "turn on me" later). I always seem to have trouble matching my skin because I'm not sure of its undertone. in fact, I was just looking at some posts I made in this same topic back in June and apparently back then I thought EDM Fairly Light and Meow Frisky Sphynx were my shades, until I applied a lot of my Meow foundation one morning and realized I looked like this:

see what I mean?

so what mix of Silk Naturals bases and colors would be the best match to the Lucy Pale Olive foundation, supposing I want to use the Medium coverage base?

Based on your mix from the other company, I think you will fall somewhere in Ebony, Warm Gold, Olive range. I am leaning Warm Gold as a first choice and the other two to adjust. I would start with Warm gold at a 1:11-12 ratio and see how it looks....if it is too warm (think yellow-peach), you will need to add some Ebony and more white. In your depth, Ebony will be at about a 1:9 ratio. You may have to try varying blends of the two mixes. I know it gets kind of confusing in determining a recipe with two color bases, but I can help you with that. Olive might come in if it is too red/pink where the yellow is right.

I would go with Olive at about a 1:15 ratio. It will probably not be as yellow as the Pale Olive. But then I don't see much yellow in your skintone...your yellow is pretty balanced. I do see the difference in the face to neck...and it looks like normal skin flush that makes you look healthy! I know we all want to color correct that a little, so Olive base should help.

The Meow does look a little too pink. Also, you did say it was a heavy application...it really could just be too deep of a shade for you.

OK- so I bought a second batch of samples to try a new color. I have: medium and heavy ivory. I also have warm gold, deep ebony, and peach booster to play with. In the past I thought I had it right- my formula was more of the warm gold and peach than the heavy but I didn't get lasting coverage. Sooo-- that's why I'm wondering if something like deep ebony (with a little peach if needed) would work. I will attempt a current picture~
