Is propinquity the first GWP going into this round of the MAC packages? Just curious...

i think the first one was the clay mask, since Propinquity is for orders that ship December 27-30.
Your first shipment will go in the mail on January 21 ish, and will cover the GWP's from December 21 to January 21.

Jien is right! The first item for MAC is the mask, and it goes from there- only 2 more before we ship, wow that was fast.

I consider myself to have a pretty good vocabulary....but could somebody let me know what the word Propinquity means? Truly, it's making me crazy.......like waking up in the middle of the night to stew about it...........
Help!!!

Laurie

P.S. I have NEVER heard of this word!

Laurie: I just googled it and according to the free web dictionary , it means kinship, similarity, nearness in proximity. Sorry I don't remember the language orgins of the word. I had never heard of it either.

Tizzylou is right! One of my most favorite teachers ever passed away this week, and I named this week's GWP the fanciest word I've ever had to use in a sentence in honor of him. It's from social psychology- propinquity breeds likingness. Meaning if you sit next to someone frequently eventually you'll become friends, even if you've never spoken to them before.

Ahh that's a lovely sentiment and meaning, especially for this time of year. I've known times years ago away from home when I felt very alone even in a crowd and years later, I remember being very touched and moved by a story a psych professor told on the radio. He explained something that sounds like kinsmanship:

It was about a person who never spoke a word to all these people whom he met on his daily walk to work. They were always in the same place, always doing the same things... yet even without knowing their names and stories, he gradually grew to realise that he cared for them.

One day when one was missing, a lady on a train who always had the same seat but was missing that day, he wondered for her; was she off sick, was she on holiday, would he see her again? Had something awful happened? Had something wonderful happened?

The key to the story was knowing that we have all kinds of relationships, some we might not ever realise, but people out there do 'see you', do care for you and do miss you, even if they might never know your name. Hope it's okay to share that, especially today.

It's a beautiful word to learn, thanks Karen.

Karen, I am sorry about your teacher. It was a lovely idea to name the shadow after (him/her sorry I missed that part). I can't wait to get it. I did join the mac again since I have enjoyed it both of the other times.
