Applying foundation wet
Applying foundation wet
I am going to a Christmas party next weekend (so early I know!) and want to get better coverage with my SN foundation, so I am researching/trying out the wet application method. Currently I'm using the new silica-free foundation, but also have medium coverage, which I find more drying. From reading back in this forum, these are the main ways that others apply minerals wet:
1. Mist face before applying
2. Mist face between layers
3. Put minerals on brush then mist brush
4. Mix the powder with a liquid, then use a sponge or foundation brush to apply
5. ?
This morning, I wet my brush with a bit of water, then dipped it into the minerals in my ceramic cup. Didn't work... the minerals turned into a sludge that stuck to the bottom of the cup no matter how much I swirled. I don't have a spray nozzle yet to mist my face with, and in my experience they tend to deposit some big drops so I am not sure whether that would work, especially for between layers. My skin also tends to get really flakey if I apply more than 1-2 layers of makeup, although wet application may help with that.
Which method(s) work best for you, and requires the least amount of equipment? I should note that I don't have a foundation brush or sponge, just an ultimate kabuki. I would be willing to purchase a spritzer to work with.
Thanks for your input!

Re: Applying foundation wet
The best way that I have found to apply MMU is with a bottle that you can mist your brush then dip into a small amount of foundation. Then reapply it til you get the coverage you want. But misting is the key on the brush. HTH

Re: Applying foundation wet
I am worried that it will turn the foundation into a sludge on my face instead of inside the cup
. I guess I will try it this weekend when I have time to deal with mishaps.

Re: Applying foundation wet
Yes, it's a weekend project because you may have to tweek the color a bit as well. I find the flat tops work better- and totally agree that spritzing the brush seems to work the best.
I've also had some luck just patting my face with damp hands after applying it dry.

Re: Applying foundation wet
I don't know if my method really counts as applying wet, but here goes.
I apply my foundation *just* after my moisturiser has sunk in. I do all of the initial application dry, and then when I have full coverage I mist my face with strawberry spritz. If I'm in a hurry I leave it at this, but when I am taking care with my foundation I then use the same brush to kind of...stipple... my face after I've misted it. It gives me a more airbrushed look than if I just leave it dry.

Re: Applying foundation wet
I have a flat top brush from another company, but it isn't as soft as SN's ultimate kabuki so I don't use it any more.
Right now, I am trying to decide whether I should get a thermal water spray from Vichy/Avene, or get a spray bottle and put water in it, because it's too late to order a spray nozzle/strawberry mist from SN. The spray bottle would be cheaper and reusable, but since it's for hair I don't know whether the spray would be fine enough.
I tend to just use toner in the morning, because washing my face with water makes it irritated, and applying moisturizer without washing my face feels icky. Haha I am so picky

The ultimate flat top is really worth purchasing. It is so soft.
Re: Applying foundation wet
I got a 50ml bottle of the Avene thermal water, and tried misting my brush with it this morning. It seems to work well so far! Only slight problem is that the mist area is much bigger than the brush, so some of the water is wasted.
Does SN's spray nozzle do a decent mist? If so, I could buy that in the future rather than keep buying non-refillable bottles of thermal water.
Thanks for all the input so far.

Re: Applying foundation wet
I usually just apply foundie dry as per normal... then if i want more coverage I spritz my face and swirl the brush again. It works for me

Re: Applying foundation wet
This is what I did today, and my foundation looked fantastic. Except the color darkened A LOT, but nothing another scoop of white can't fix. Thanks for the suggestion cheece!Cheece wrote:I don't know if my method really counts as applying wet, but here goes.

Yes, it went quite dark on me, but the smoothness and coverage was awesome. Strawberry spritz for the win!karen wrote:Yes, it's a weekend project because you may have to tweek the color a bit as well.
