darker face :(

Post by egerandi » Tue Nov 02, 2010 2:11 pm

It's time for me to revisit my foundation (or change something). I've had this issue for a long time, but kinda ignored it, and I'm sure it's kinda just 'normal':
My face is more tan than my neck and chest, and sometimes it becomes painfully apparent in pics. I even took a photo with no makeup on,
just to make sure it's not the powders I'm putting on, and bingo, face is darker :(

Now, my foundation matches my skin pretty much perfectly, at least seemingly, but then it produces a somewhat orange-y look,
no matter what the base. I used to use a silicone base, but now I just do perfecting powder or luxury treatment powder as the base,
the foundation, then my mix of tempt tryst and zinc (or even just a bit of OC untinted Blur), which looks fine when I leave the house.

However, a little while later the orange kicks in, but you can only really notice it on photos. Should I not even be worried about this?
I have asked my BF, and if there is someone who would tell me that my face is darker, that would be him (happened before with
other brands). He's damn honest :D

Should I just try lightening the foundation itself? Or use different combo? Right now I have a crazy mix of 4ebony:1.5bg:35medium ivory:30zinc:5glow:7TT.
Or, should I just stick with the untinted OC blur, and keep re-applying before photos? Or am I just slightly paranoid and it's all
about the shadows and the light?

To demo, here is my halloween pic (I'm the one in the mustache):

I started getting this a couple of months ago! The exact same thing! Its perfect when you first put it on then goes to that almost 'wearing too much make-up' brown? I found mixing it with a good puff of the pure silk powder (I've been using the vegan foundation) sorted it out! I've gone back to the original foundation (I think, its hard to keep track of all the jars) and it seems fine, but the new foundation's been beautiful, much easier to match and a lovely finish!

I have a pack of the new foundation that was just released as a gumball; are you saying that gives you a better and longer lasting finish without turning darker? I was about to whip up a batch, not urgent, because mostly I just use a base layer and the dust it with my finishing powder mix, no foundation.

And thanks, too bad my evil little beard fall off too soon, hehe.

The darkening is kind of what happens when the pigments mix with the oils from your skin. It is much more pronounced for those who have more pigment in their foundation mix. Really, your foundation should look a little on the light side when you first put in on. I would just try to lighten your mix a little before you give up.

I will try that, Jen! And, I'm pretty intrigued by the new foundie base, I'd better read up on that thread. My skin gets a bit dryer in the winter, so that should help.

Either it is the oil on your face mixing and causing darkening like Jen said, or you have the same problem I do, which is almost every foundation out there (including the SN bases) contain too much brown. By the time I lighten things up enough to get it light enough my skin doesn't look muddy, and include boosters of yellow and peach to get the right tones, everything is still a bit too white... The new base helps with that some, I think because I can apply it wet. Helps with blending and doesn't seem to darken or need as much base. But, my shade in it is still a bit too white. I haven't found a suitable powder to add the wee bit of bisque/beige that I need to make it perfect.

For most people in my life 90% right looks fine...but I can see the difference and it drives me a little batty. I'll work it out though! :D Good luck with your mixing!

I apply it dry and find it darkens the tiiiiniest amount in the swirly bowl (I only noticed when adding on to 'yesterdays foundation' I didn't use up) but then on my face has been, no notable colour change just kind of 'binds'with my face a little more to look natural and less powdery.

There was a doctor with a tash like that and a kind of pirate beard in the operating theatre yeasterday just watching - he looked like a magician it was amazing :D

Yeah... agreed. I've had to make my foundation lighter several times. I think it depends on what my skin is doing at any given time, like what time of year, hormones, food, etc. as to how much it turns orange or not.
