The light and medium in the Ivory/white base refers to coverage and does not effect the depth of the color. The depth of color is adjusted by changing the ratio of color base to white base. I suggested 1 scoop color to 5 scoops white. If you need lighter in tone, you would increase by a scoop of white. If you need darker tone, you would decrease the scoops of white in your ratio (to 4 in this case). When you have a fairly reproduceable ratio, and you can use a larger scoop in the same ratio (I use a tsp or a 1/2 tsp when I mix my foundation in larger batches.)

You should have enough Ebony to try both levels of coverage.

We do have customers who prefer a coverage in between our Original (mabye sheer is a better descriptor here) and Medium Coverage. They do mix white bases and it works out well for them.

Yeah I was talking about coverage more than tone. It is my understanding the medium ivory provides more coverage than the original ivory so was wondering if I wanted a coverage (sheerness?) somewhere between the two if I could mix them together. Anyhow, I had everything in my shopping cart and was just waiting for confirmation from you before hitting the order button. I am sure I will be back once I receive the order, hopefully I won't botch it up too much. Thanks again.

Yes...if the medium coverage seems too heavy, and the Original not quite enough, it is fine to mix the two. ;)

Hiya

i recently discovered this forum and Silk Naturals when searching furiously for a foundation which would suit me colour wise and also coverage wise, and the reviews and ratings speak for themselves, so here i am seeking advice before i purchase probably too much

I have quite bad skin, with acne scarring and active acne, and most foundations tend to make me go orange/darken over the day and so i find it hard to find a foundation match which suits me and lasts all day too.

I have attached a photo below...any advice appreciated, as i have no idea what colour/mix to start off with

thank you in advance!

Stovokor, I am not good with color matching so I am no help there. I did want to say that my skin has been much clearer since I started using the sn skin care. I do kiss cleanser in the shower in the morning than vitamin c peptide serum under my lotion. At night I use the apricot cleansing oil to wash off my makeup. I was very hesitant to use an oil on my face but it really works great and my skin feels so soft. I usually put the face lift lotion on after that, but I don't think that helps with the blemishes. I just thought you might want to try some samples and see if they might help. Welcome to the board, I hope to see you around again.

Stovokor-

For foundation you will need Ebony or Olive. In Ebony, your ratio will be 1 scoop color to about 9 white, in Olive you will be 1 scoop color to about 14 white. I am really leaning toward Ebony based upon the pic, but Olive might help with redness.

You really do need a pink colour corrector/booster. I know I'm cool toned and only ever get a match from the cool families at other MMU companies. I only bought the Ebony colour base because I couldn't imagine anything else would work but it somehow manages to look both orange/brown and grey/ashy at the same time on me. I'll probably be able to use it somehow by mixing it with other samples that don't work but it would have been nice to actually test your foundation formula.
Pink Booster is in the works. As soon as we saw a need for it, Karen started working on it.
This was from December and I'm looking at ordering again but I can't find any pink booster on the site. Did it ever come about?

Not yet. Karen did suggest trying Petal blush to see if it would work. I think it has been tough to find truely cool toned testers to figure out what shade of pink would work best.

I have the same problem you do, but on the warmer end of things...I need orange/peach. It seems with all the foundation bases the brown component sits on my skin and looks odd. A combo of yellow booster and Palace is working in a pinch while I figure out what to try next... I decided on Palace because it had the tone I was looking for (my undertones are peach/yellow). Is there a pink SN blush that you really love on your skin, like it seems to meld into your face and harmonize with your undertones? Trying it as your pink booster might give you similar results until an official pink booster is formulated.

I know Karen suggested Petal, but if that doesn't work maybe one of the vibrant pinks would, like Tart? Might be worth a sample! :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I've never tried a SN blush because I've had some bad reactions to foods with red dyes (and only the red ones) so I figure I should try not to put them on my face - especially in foundation which I primarily use to cover the type blotchy redness that I get from eating red candy. I'll try to use up my foundation samples mixing them with rejects from other companies. I'll just buy new samples if you ever come out with a (dye-free) pink booster.
