I love all these tattoos!! Living artwork is a beautiful thing...

I've wanted a tattoo for years, but I have commitment issues and can't settle on one yet. I figure it'll come to me when the time is right, and I'll feel settled about it then! Or at least that's how it's worked with everything else I've had commitment issues about (like marriage ).

My little sister on the other hand is quite well decorated already... Her biggest tattoo is a flaming yellow, orange, and red fiery phoenix! Takes up most of her left abdomen/rib area. I keep telling her she has to slow down at some point or she'll run out of skin before she's 30. But, they all have deep meaning in her life, so I can't fault her for that!

In the fall or winter, I'll get one more tattoo, if I can scrape together the money for it. I want a Japanese-style dragon, you know, the kind without any wings? It goes with the theme I have going on (beauty, love, strength), but since a dragon also happens to be Eric's chinese zodiac symbol (total coincidence there I swear, I wanted one anyway), I also wanted to work in my zodiac symbol, by having the tail hooked into the Sagittarius arrow shape. I ran the idea by my tattoo artist, Vic, and he said he can make that work. I'm going to get it on the right shoulder, beneath the kanji for love, because I seemed to handle that tattoo a whole lot better than the one on the left shoulder for some reason.

I never heard of applying warm compresses to your tattoo. What is that supposed to do?

Jen, I actually had the opposite effect as Karen did. The outlining hurt like heck. The pain was a very sharp, stabbing type and I had to meditate in order to tune it out. When he started filling it in though, it was a different type of needle and then just felt like a massage. We were able to joke and laugh and chit chat throughout that part. I don't know if it's because the surface area is not as pinpoint or they don't have to go as slow/deep or what. Could be the area of the body too. I'm heard the front/sides hurts more than back.

Kevin and I want to tattoo our wedding bands since we're so active and would cry if we lost our rings rock climbing or something.

ChristineLynnP...I think the hot compresses for two weeks were just part of how my artist recommended treating them. In her thinking, it increases blood circulation in the area and speeds the healing process along.
