Why is my face so tan?!?

Post by feyith » Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:41 pm

Is anybody else's face like scary dark/pink compared to the rest of their body? This is a relatively recent thing for me and the only thing I can think of that's newish to my routine is the Green Tea and Aloe Serum. That doesn't cause photo sensitivity, does it?

Any advice?

Hmmm...I can't think of why the GTA serum would cause that... Unless you are applying it after your sunscreen and somehow it's diluting it so your sun protection is less effective? Thinned out, it could cause you to tan, since it's still there enough to prevent you from burning. Aloe causes sun burned skin to heal faster IMO, so that could account for your face appearing pinker, or tanner, depending on if you've just got sun vs a few days after sun exposure.

In general, my face is always a bit darker/more colored than the rest of my body. The top part of my chest is too, probably because I wear v-necked shirts all year round. I suspect in those areas the skin is thinner so you see my undertones better, which appears as darker skin...plus, they get more sun than the rest of me. If my arms get any sun though, they tan and freckle like crazy and it doesn't fade for months, so I have the two tone arm look even in the winter.

The problem was more pronounced when I was on "the pill". My face tanned constantly and I developed more melasma across my forehead and cheeks. Ahhh, aren't hormones wonderful! ;)

My face is a little pinker/darker than my neck, but not too much. Have you been out in the sun much? I found over summer, just going out for 15 mins to hang the washing on the line was enough that I freckled up heaps, so I had to be sure to put my sunscreen on first thing. I think it has faded though since it is winter now *runs to go check skin in mirror*.

I agree w/ the other replies. I am amazed how quickly the smallest amount of sun effects the coloring on my face. I wear some sort of sunscreen (chemical, physical or both )all the time and my left side is always darker w/ more freckles b/c of driving (I even have tinted window).
It could also be a slight reaction to the GTA serum. My face gets pinkish when I use a lot of aloe...but my skin is a FREAK of nature.

On a side note, I started using my Oatmeal Serum (had for months), I am amazed at the even skintone it is giving me (licorice extract) Plus it cleared up a nasty eczema patch, also helped my husband w/ a burn.

Could it have been the antibiotics you mentioned in the other thread?

My face always tans much more easy than my neck. I mean, how often do you sunbathe your neck =)?

Your face is the only part of your body that is always exposed to the sun, so why shouldn't it get more tan =)?

If you're on antibiotics that's a very likely culprit. I was on antibiotics a few years ago, and I have permanently darkened spots of pigmentation all over my arms from it. My face not so much because I always used some form of sun protection, but my arms got hit the hardest because I didn't take the warning to always use sun protection literally enough.
