ChristineLynnP wrote:Oxana- I agree, a little boredom isn't so bad at all. I hate summertime with a passion now because we are so busy at work, and though of course we have busy days throughout the year, I embrace boredom the rest of the year. It keeps me here, along with high 401k matching, holidays off, and a nice amount of vacation time, though I know I could find a higher-paying job eventually elsewhere but I don't do well in a hectic environment. I'm sorry you had such a tough time of it though and I hope your mom has an easier time finding something. I forget, did you ever find something? Eric used to live where you do, and he moved because at the time, the job situation there was as bad as it is here now, if not worse. Seeing what everyone is going through here, I really hope your state's employment situation has improved over these past 9 1/2 years, instead of getting worse.

And thank you everyone. It helps a lot to have somewhere to go to talk about it and people pulling for us. If/when I hear anything, I'll share the news as soon as I get a chance.
I never did find a job, but luckily hubby did and we were able to make the move down, we so enjoy the warmer climate. After becoming pregnant I actually stopped looking for work, because I want to be a stay at home mom, at least until kindergarten. So I figured even if I did find something, it's not really worth it for just 9 months, plus with the morning sickness I had I don't think I would have been able to work anyways. I do end up helping my husband's company here in there, so I work a little bit.
There actually is a good job market in the area that I live, it's supposedly the #1 most relocated to area in the US (which it probably wouldn't be if there were no jobs here), but the problem is it is mostly computer related stuff and biotech type jobs. I majored in Finance, so that was tougher to come by, especially since my experience was in a very specific area, and something they don't really have down here.
I practiced with my mom for her interview a ton yesterday, we had a list of like 50 possible questions they could ask her from the internet and went over them all, so hopefully it helped.
They did ask her one thing that threw her off, so hopefully she did still answer ok. It was something about how she would handle the oil spill, what her actions would be in the first 10 days of her trying to handle it, and where she would allocate the money to, and what she would do about the fishermen that are out of jobs. And this is completely unrelated to the job, which has nothing to do with oil spills, or oil, or even the environment. I thought that was a really random thing to ask.

Oxana, they usually ask those questions to get a better sense of your personality or in this case probably to see how you handle stress.

Christine, I'm still up north in your state rooting for you. If it helps at all, things have really picked up in the tri-state area, we're out of the recession and everyone I know who lost work in the crash are back to work.

So rest of the country, better days are coming.

I am sending you both good thoughts and hugs.

Has he considered going back to school? I teach at a tech school, and we have more and more older adults coming back to learn a new career. Older students usually do better because the education means so much more to them. Just a thought. . . ;)

Sending good vibes your way. DH spent 9 months unemployed, and it was like a weight on your back the whole time. It turned out for the best, but those months were dicey. It's rather a shame that there aren't more jobs for folks who just want to work hard. It seemed like there'd always be a place for guys like that, but I know it's getting harder and harder.

Fingers crossed. Has he tried any scrap metal recycling yards? They need guys to run a cutting torch, and it's one of the few industries that are growing at the moment.

Christine, I'll keep both of you in my prayers. I know how frustrating things are, as little as 2 years ago , I was in your shoes. DH got fired right before Thanksgiving and it took 18 months for him to find something else, and that was with skills that he gained almost 15 years earlier ( and not what he was currently doing). At the time a good friend of mine told me, "The will of God will not take you, where the grace of God cannot protect you." Hang in there, as tough as it is to endure, your luck will turn and this will be a bad memory.

Hope you hear good things soon.

No news yet :x I'm not really surprised, the negotiating a contract between the company and agency alone took a few weeks. Everything seems to be moving really slow.
