hahaha...I'm another one with the hair color conundrum. I always love to share that I got called a blonde, brunette, and redhead all in one week (with no actual change in hair color). My fiance says I'm a strawberry blonde. I also have a mix of blue and green eyes.

I need to work on my reviewing skills. I've never left any SN reviews, but I don't feel like I'm very good at reviewing products. Most of the time, I don't notice the subtleties that other ladies notice when it comes to beauty products.

I do like reading the reviews that others leave though. I was actually working my way through them the other night trying to decide on my next order.

i'm good on the hair color, it's the eye color i get thrown on- my eyes change color but most of the time they are grey. Sometimes I mark black, sometimes i mark green, sometimes i mark hazel, and sometimes i just leave it blank.

Love the reviews on the SN site!! They are so helpful in deciding what to try (in combo with the forum, of course ).

But, as ashamed as I am to admit it, I've not written more than a few . I really should remedy that!

One problem though... The biggest hang up I have is with colors that I've received that are beautiful, they just aren't beautiful on me. I have quite a collection of SN products, so logically, some don't work as well as others. I want to give them a 5 star rating because I can see how gorgeous they'd be for others...but on the other hand, I'm worried it would be confusing for someone to see the 5 stars, then read that I don't actually like the color on me.

So....what do you guys do in that situation?? I always think of "stars" in terms of quality, and clearly the quality is there. But...still, it confuses me a bit, because I think others use them based on how much they personally liked the color on them. Yes, I'm indecisive...and over think things.

I have this problem too. I tend not to review lippies that change color on me b/c I know I'm not the norm. If the color wasn't as stated I would have no problem giving a 2 star review, but the problem seems to be me. I guess in my reviews I should state what I like/dislike, and add they change color on me.

My problem isn't hair color, but skin color. I have a fair-medium skintone, but I also have some olive (golden). Some of my reviews list Fair-Medium and others Olive.

Ah, that's something that I feel strongly about. It's just my opinion, but I think it's awfully unfair for people to mark down a product just because of their opinion on how well a colour suits their colouring. Star ratings should be on product description accuracy, quality of manufacture, freshness of product, is the colour photography accurately representative, if it says "moisturising" does it work - etc, etc. If someone makes a colour choice that doesn't work for them, it's unfair to penalise the company's reputation for the customer's bad choice / poor judgement.

Or to put it into other terms... if you had a 100% positive feedback rating on ebay, had a perfectly smooth sale and someone left you a negative because they decided that once they received the item, it wasn't quite to their taste, my opinion is that that wouldn't be a fair reflection on the seller. Same idea here. Hope that makes sense.

I agree with you, Cupcake. The only exception I'd make is if the color description says "universally flattering" - then I might want to point out that there are indeed exceptions.

Yeah, that's good. It helps knowing if a colour doesn't work on a certain skintone. That's constructive. If you don't like something, the key thing is to say why - that's always helpful.

Haha, yes, I was thinking of the lippie problem I have when I wrote the above! It's not that I pick poorly, it's that they change enough after 20 minutes that they no longer suit me... It is VERY useful when I see reviews from others on a particular color mentioning that they change (and describing how they change).

I've noticed a pattern where if I see certain names reviewing a color positively, I know the color will work for me! Likewise, if I see certain names reviewing it and mentioning it's changing color, I can with pretty much predict what the color will do on me.

Yup Cupcake and Feyith, I pretty much agree with you...as in, that's how I normally review things. It always irritates me when people review a color badly because it doesn't suit them, when based on their description of their own coloring you can tell it won't suit them!

I tend to go on descriptions of the color that Karen writes in the product blurb rather than the photos, since the photos never tell me what something is gonna look like on my skin. Though in some cases even her description is nothing like the color looks on me. For instance, Honeysuckle does not look orange on me at all...though I was really hoping it would! It doesn't look anywhere near how Temptation does on me, more like a shimmery Truly, and Truly looks pink on me. Zinnia doesn't work either, though based on her description I was sure it would! It turns pink and I can't figure out why. I suppose in those instances knocking off a star and detail what it's doing on my lips would be best. That indicates there's something about it that isn't working for me, though from the descriptions I thought it would. But since the quality and such is so great and the colors are beautiful no matter what, I wouldn't want to rate it any lower.

For most colors that don't work for me, there is no inherent flaw with the product. If there's a flaw, it's with my skin/lip pigment (or lack thereof)! Thanks for your input ladies!

I'm not sure how I would review a product star wise if the colour didn't suit but I thought it was a beautiful colour - I would probably rate it based on quality of the product, and whether I think the colour is true to the swatch etc.

I generally tend to only rate colour products that do suit me, for that reason, with regards to skincare I rate based on how well it works for me (because I really only try products that are *supposed* to work for my skin issues anyway).

I probably don't review stuff enough though, because I know I really like reviews (especially on new colours that I can't get a lot of info off the forum about).
