Foundation questions

Hi Everyone
I am wondering about foundation. I flush easily and I was trying to decipher for the forum and the foundation information if I need medium or light coverage. I do use unblush-it is a must for me. I have not been diagnosed with roscea but I think I have it on either side of my nose-always red there. Very sensitive skin-I tried Miracle in a Jar by Philosphy and broke out when I got in the sun I had to go to the doctor, wear no makeup for a week adn use cortizone

So right now I use the original foundation of ebony with the Ivory at about a 1 to 6 ratio, but now I see these other foundations and am wondering what I could try to help with more of the flushing issue, please how to I get my makeup to last through out the day without having to do any touch ups?

Please let me know-I am so glad this exists as I have always loved makeup! I grew up around a lot of boys and would play baseball or course sliding into home and getting muddy was the best ever! We would also ride bike over homemade jumps we'd make and try to make a skid in the dirt and then measure whos was the longest. Even after that my Dad said he come home and find me sitting in a mud puddle putting on lipstick and doing it perfectly without a mirror:)

1. Highly recommend trying aloe vera gel (purest form available, go to a health food store, not to a drug store) if you haven't already, as a night treatment for redness.
2. Recommend trying natural oil as a moisturizer at night (jojoba oil or coconut oil are my faves, also squalene)
3. Recommend increasing protein intake for collagen strength in skin (pay attention to lysine and proline intake)
4. Recommend Nordic Naturals fish oil for omega-3 anti-inflammatory properties (it's the best brand I've ever seen) or hemp protein if you are vegetarian
5. Recommend B vitamins and vitamin C
6. Recommend taking probiotics to help kill off any internal infections inflaming your skin (can also use plain yogurt or kombucha tea)
7. Recommend increasing fiber intake and reducing sugar intake.
8. Recommend examining your cleansing products for harsh ingredients.

I know that's not what you asked but redness is hard to treat and usually it's best done through diet rather than topical treatment.

Hopefully someone else will answer your question more directly. I don't know the answer to the makeup question. Sorry if you've already tried all that and didn't want that advice.... just thought I'd try.

Ayla, I'm not one for touch-ups & never have been. I apply my SN before 6AM & it is there looking good until I de-fluff maybe 12 hrs later. I think from what you've posted that gentleness is the key with your skin. I've been using a layer of the Perfecting Powder as a base this summer, then applying my foundation & topping with whichever finisher I choose that day. I *always* spritz my face to "set" my makeup. If I get really warm in this humidity, I just blot gently & don't rub. A *little* color comes off on the tissue but it doesn't/hasn't affected the overall finished look of my makeup. I know a lot of gals retouch & all that; the *only* "makeup" I carry *at all* is my lippie.

Have found the silk to be especially kind to my skin!

You can try a silicon based primer before your foundation, I find this helpful when I need it to last all day.

Add a bit of one of the gold’s to your foundation mix to help with covering redness. I found the ebony too pinky for me with out a gold added.

Try a wet application of foundation and dry application of perfecting powder.

I agree with Zeebs on the aloe, it’s what I use to remove my make up at night and it’s good for the skin.

Everything everyone has said is definitely helpful. I used to have a serious redness issue myself. It is one of those things that takes time to test what will help. I had to take most commercial products out of my skicare regimin, and get away from detergents for anything other than clothes washing, or dish washing (and in those two categories, I always buy the same brands). I use more natural moisturizers (oils) and cleansers now, and my skin is much happier.

As far as the foundation, I would definitely give the Medium Coverage a sample. I generally am a light coverage type, but appreciate how much faster I can put on my makeup with the medium. It is like two coats of the original. Definitely keep using the unblush, too.

I second a lot of the suggestions...especially the fish oil (take it at night- trust me on this one)- but talk to your Doc if you have health concerns first. Vitamin C is a life saver for me too. I mix it with green tea powder, and it makes a big difference.

I've started using Tempt Tryst to knock down some of the redness- that seems to help too.

As far as the lasting...what's making it go away? If it's oil either some Perfecting Powder, or our Primer should help. I have very dry skin, and there are days where it's humid, or hot, or if I'm just running around a lot that even I have to touch up just to keep looking fresh- I always have. We've all had days where we don't even get a chance to go to the bathroom- but sometimes it's nice to take a minute to take care of yourself.
